FULL SUSPENSION CONVERT

I only started riding regularily around 6 months ago and started on a Merida hardtail and very happy with it. I recently thought of changing to full suspension as I thought I would enjoy my casual rides even more - glad I did! I tried the new Merida full suspension frame out yesterday on the DH track that branches off the small loop at the top of Wyatt track, pretty tricky in sections for a beginner (a few stop and walks) but loads of fun. Thanks to Belrose Cycles for the frame change and no pressure to buy a whole new bike, could'nt be happier!

Is this the little DH track in Cascades?

I'm pretty sure that is meant to be out of bounds to cyclists.

No, no, no... that is not inside the national park, so go for it Smiling

If you turn right at the end (I mean right at the end, bottom of the run) that is... turning left is a no, no!

Thanks for clearing that up Rob. Guess I'll be going back down next time then!

Towards the bottom there is a fork - to the right is a large rock and a drop off and to the left is a single track that goes for a few hundred metres and then joins the main track (which is where I went and was well ridden by other bikes)I did however notice that at the end were a few steel post and signs indicating no motorbikes or cycles but as this is the end of the single track then it was a bit late to turn back, hope I didnt go where I was not supposed to!

No, sounds like you took the illegal left at the bottom where you are not meant to go. At that junction if you go right there's a power pylon right there and you re-join the firetrail almost straight away.

You note that MX bikes have been down the left, illegal track and ripped everything up. Sad

does that mean that from the small single track loop the dh track is all legal until your virtualy at the bottom then you have to take the right hand exit? I thought the whole dh part leading of the sniggle was a no go??

Rob's picture

That is correct - the sniggle loop top of Cascades (by Ralston St) is not inside the NP Smiling

I will turn right at the rock platform next time, although it was a bit full on for me so I'll look for a more sedate ride somehwere else.
PS: As I have just started to use this site, I find it unbelievable how much info and work must go into it and its free to use, good job to those who run it!

Hmmmmm... are you talking about the place there is a steep, around 5 foot rock drop? That's not the bottom bit I was talking about. The right turn I'm thinking of goes to a power pylon after an easy flat run. Will have to go take some pictures... shame Eye-wink
