Sydney Spring Fat Tyre Festival
North End of Red Hill Rd, Ourimbah State Forest. There's a large-ish parking area here, just off the main sealed road. There is also a smaller parking area a little further (400m or so from the road) where the trail splits - this second area is the usual meeting point. If you end up driving up a steep hill you've gone too far.
The Sydney Spring Fat Tyre Festival presented by JP Morgan and Kona is an exciting one day mountain bike race being held at Ourimbah State Forest approximately 100km north from the heart of the Sydney CBD.
Ourimbah has been well known for its cross country track and downhill courses for some time, and thanks to the efforts of the Central Coast Ourimbah MTB Club the trails are looking better than ever.
The festival will be held on Sunday November 23rd 2008, with the main event being the 8 ¼ Hours Of Power (we wanted to make it just that little bit better than all the other eight hour events).
It will be an eight hour and 15 minute race, based on the standard XC race format.
There’s over $20,000 of cash and prizes to be won or given away, with solo riders going for over $3000 cash in prize money!
Entries for the 2008 Sydney Spring Fat Tyre Festival are now open. http://www.wannaride.com.au/event_fattyre.html

Always wear your sunscreen, no matter what the weather. You never know!!
Why aren't you racing?
Maybe Ernie has gone on holiday
just returned from doing a couple of laps of ourimbah, & considering the amount of rain we've had here in the last couple of days(some pretty heavy downpours) the track is in excellent condition,a few small muddy spots in the graveyard & the meadows thats all.as long as we don't get too much rain tomorrow it should be excellent.see you sunday.
cheers john.
Damien (1st Solo SS) & Vanina (2nd Solo Female).
who competed in the fat tire festival, was a great day despite the weather.Sorry I didn't get to come & chat to you guys I was too busy either eating or riding thats the way it is doing pairs, but ended up with a good result coming 2nd in masters pairs just 17 secs off first place.
Well done to everyone today. Met a few new faces which is always nice
The Iron Horse Pony Club placed 10th in the Open 3's after a broken chain taking 20minutes to fix on-trail and a big spill of claret (uncensored subscribers can see the photo in the gallery) we're very happy with the outcome.
Didn't see where Mantoast placed
Phil
Oh, I thought we placed 10th. I guess not
I wonder if it was one of your team I was chatting with on the third lap about the broken chain, yellow top I think?
Yeah that was us. The broken chain really put a dint on things but we really made up good ground and rebounded well from it. Race control told us that we finished 10th, hmmm perhaps we need to wait for the official results to come in.
Damien and Vanina both on the podium again, great job.
John
well done the both of you. that track was hard work after about half way. my body really felt it today. the only parts that didn't hurt were my head, hands, feet and the bits i rubbed bubanthen on! (p.s. i missed my inner thighs) i realised when i got in a hot bath later. ouch!
a good day all round i think,
gazza
who was the photographer taking pics of the parrot and everyone in our camping section.
but he had some really cool shots of the bird sitting on some tyres.
Big congrats to Damien and Vanina for their awesome efforts and podium finishes.
Cheers to all for a great day.
Evan
Any results available yet ?
They should be up on Wannaride.com.au sometime today, provided their web monkey survived the race.
sweet as long as i dont get a DNF like Strom.
Just got an email from Chris at wannaride.. official 10th place for the open 3 went to Mantoast. Won't mean much to all you speed demons but top ten means lots to me and the team
Well done guys.. I knew we could do it!

I must have been on another course, I don't remember this bridge at all

(sorry for the multiple updates)
Great photo of Gazza....
Both Krystle Wright & Tim Strong have some really awesome pics!
Hope you guys (Krystle & Tim) come to more MTB events!!!
Dylan that bridge is the one at the end of the Roller Coaster just before that rock roll down onto a pallet.
That little thing? Ha, it looks huge and scary in these photos. I bet all those crazy pics in mags are really of people getting a couple of feet air
It's interesting looking at the pics of the rock face just after that bridge, I didn't ever see that line to the right side of the rock.
Dont know why you would bother going to the right the rock face was fairly simple and straight forward.
It's slightly quicker to go on the right...
You can see someone using that line here:
http://www.wannaride.com.au/photos/2008_Krystle_Wright/pages/MTB%20(45).html
I reckon over the rock is quicker.. on a decent bike
The distortion (while creating an interesting pic) is confusing as I'm not sure if it is the same rock...
I'm sure it is the same rock as the one after the bridge. Probably just the wide angle lens making it look smaller?
