great trail!!!
Saturday:
Damien and his small car came to pick us up
Three bikes on the roof, biking gears and tent well packed..Gavin, Damien and I were on our way to the big race. When we arrived Damien and I registed and our race numbers were 4 and 500 respectively.
We went out for dinner in a chinese restaurant where the lady was lovely and the food beautiful. At this end of the dinner we had a fortune cooky and mine was saying "Stop complaining, do something about it!" ....Ok... then back to that camp site where The tent was up and solidely stuck in the ground, we were ready for a cold windy night.
Sunday:
The wind was so strong during the night that we did not sleep particully well... After my rice porridge, chocolat milk that Gav made me and free coffee, I felt happy and awake.
for the start I was on the second row, I did not push hard for the climb and I managed to be with the first group of people. On the single track, at my big suprised it was supa slow!!!! I did not get it really.
I knew that Katrin the other solo women was a machine and I knew that she is going to kick my b.. of amateur but I rode at a pace that I enjoyed to be in but I stopped to get some food and drink from my amasing support crew Gav (Katrin passed me)and then back on the trail, and at the 9th laps I started to crash (8times!!), on people that was stopping in front of me or beause they were trying to pass me on supa skinny section( I also crash for nothing ...which was a bit ambarrassing (Rob and Gav saw some nice samples... At the end I was (still is) full of bruises that were moving when riding which made everything a bit harder ... I think I was tired ..
My partner Gav was amasing as he pushed me to do the last lap (12th) my supa crusy lap that I would not have done if he was not there. Katrin lapped me on the 11th lap, I rode a tiny part of the 12th lap with her but when she took the A line (the dipper) ... I took the B line and that was it ...she was gone.... then I stroll around I talked to a girl that works in CBD pushed my bike a bit ... and on my way to the finish line I was saying to myself " I hope I am not 3rd"
first long Enduro solo MTB for me and Ithough about 24h races and I said to myself " Women you need more experiences to allow you to ride wiser and to be mentally stronger..."
As it does not matter how strong you are ..what matters is how well you cope to be on the bike for a long period of time and how well you understand your own body.....and do not go to fast at the start even if you are feeling good. at the end I was tired and I was not one with the bike anymore my legs were fine but my head was gone .... I could have been more consistant but my head was not able to cope with the speed anymore therefore to avoid a big crash I reduced the speed .... I would like to say thanks to Chris from CBD for allowing me to race this fantastic trail even if my entry was supa late it was supa fun and the organisation was just perfect !!!!!!!!!!
