Paul's picture

Hans, I road Perimeter on Sunday afternoon and it was water logged, boggy and not at all pleasant.

You may look at either rescheduling or an alternate trail.

Hans's picture

Thx Paul

Let's see how the weather pans out closer to Thursday...Perimeter seems the "least" water-logged at the moment compared to others on the precipitation charts...

Will update as required. Any suggestions welcome. Eye-wink

Buck's picture

Is this going to be a really slow ride Hans?

If so I may try and pedal something heavier Smiling

Rob's picture

If you have N+1'd it illegal not to bring it out the very first ride you do!

lozza6's picture

Wonder if the trail can be done on a trials bike? lol

and Buck, YES YOU SHOULD! Laughing out loud

Paul's picture

What heavy stuff are you going to pedal?

I think scumming is having a bad influence on you.

Little-Ditty's picture

Yes, take the N+1, you will be fine on that ride. I did it the last time a couple of weeks ago and it proved easy enough. Although some of the hills are a bit more slow. Smiling

3Putt's picture

Gday,

I am keen for my first night ride, as my 08 Ayup MTB kit is arriving tomorrow!

I am a 'beginner' though. Only got into MTB's 2 months ago, and I'm worried i won't keep up.

Any advice? Should I give it a go?

Little-Ditty's picture

I think you will be fine on this ride, as long as you have some reasonable level of fitness. Terrey Hils is not an overly taxing trail.

Buck's picture

Yes Paul the new bike is a few or several kilos heavier than the Trance. Smiling

I figured I may see how much weight I could add on to a bike rather than take off like Stuart and other weight weenies Sticking out tongue

Stuart M's picture

take weight off the bike, put weight on me, hence weight back on bike. Net result overall Smiling

Take the beast, I'll take mine if I can make it and we can just cruise at the back

Carlgroover's picture

want to be out the back on my own with Beany going, even though he has an eye for Little-Ditty.

Beany's picture

Pickey,
I hate to pull out early, but this week is not looking good,I was fully charged and the Manuever was lubed.

Maybe next week.

Hans's picture

Buck, 3Putt et al

Yes, confirmed - this will be a SLOW social ride, with a do-able pace for newbies and plenty of stops and chats on the way.

a) There were a number of requests made to SLOW the social rides right down BACK TO A SOCIAL PACE...I believe we have actually turned off some newbies (bot male and female) recently with the ever increasing speed on rides pre the recent races...

b) E.g. at least three or four newbies that I remember seeing at some of the recent social rides...never showed up again...(or was it something we said?)

c) So please let's all switch back to social mode - be merry and stop to smell the wildflowers...and show what a sociable mob we are Eye-wink

P.S. ...and yes it's a great opportunity to show off and discuss your latest bike (MTB, scum, crosser or trials) and other bling Eye-wink

P.S. P.S. Trek riders and/or newbies from outside the Northern Beaches are absolutely welcome - we promise not to discriminate...! Smiling Some of the recent out-of-towners liked our Northern Beaches trails so much that they even considered leaving their job and going into early retirement!

many riders it's bound to be more social hey! I imagine it's more the conversation than speed Hans that has some nightriders remaing tucked up at home - unless they simply have a preference to being warm in front of the televisoin rather than working up a sweat on the trails - (Stuart, behave!)
But there has been a lack of beginner/social day rides too...
If I can get out of a work function i will be there ready to slow the pace and talk to all and sundry
shame, though i was really looking forward to riding with Beany...
so, while i was typing this friendly optimistic post I got a phone call.. I won't be socialising with you lot, have to get dressed up and go into the City...know where I would rather be - have a beer for me please!!!! Sad

Slowpup's picture

3Put, I did the same as you about six weeks ago with Ay-Ups. The first ride I did with the mob was a bit faster than expected (everyone getting ready for the Doctor), but the mob never leave a man behind. Get out in the dark, you won't regret it.

Look forward to meeting you on Wednesday.

I hope Hans doesn't include me in the newbies who didn't come back. I'd be out every week if I could make it.

Hi Nick - no worries, mate - you are already an "old hand" at night rides ....and a certified SOCIAL ANIMAL...

Wednesday SOCIAL Night Ride - Terrey Hills Wed 3 Sep (19:15)
NIGHT RIDE: The (NEW) Manly Dam Thu 21 Aug (19:15)

Meeting tracker is that new never noticed it before.

Early morning training for the Scott 24hr for me at the moment so no social outings for a few weeks.

Slowpup's picture

Hans, I pulled out of two of those rides though, so only done two so far!

Hans's picture

Hi Nick

no sweat - it's the thought that counts! No algorithm can be perfect - not even the new "meetings" tracker...! I remember the 3rd of September ride was rained out and cold...(and Christine didn't want to get her nice EPIC dirty...)

See you on Wednesday - the weather looks good!

linco's picture

My 1st night ride and looking forward to it. See you all there.

GAZZA's picture

Due to the late finishes (in the pub!) I can't make a habit of the night rides as I find it hard to get to sleep and am buggered the next day. As I'm picking my p.c. up from rob and owe a german bloke some cash for knobbly rubber I'll look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night. Eye-wink

Hans's picture

Gazza

...owing money for knobbly rubber...?

People might start talking....and take it out of context... Eye-wink

BTW - did you have to clean it before you put it on?

Buzz's picture

I'm trying to make this ride but given the Dow meltdown its looking doubtful.

I'll confirm if I can come tomorrow.

Morgan its more a case of looking for arbitrage opportunities than my loss.

LikeAGlove's picture

what's the weather like over that way today? bom says clearing in the afternoon but I don't see it clearing here.

christine's picture

Since you are riding I have been maniuplative and changed my thing to Friday night so I can ride tonight!! wooo hooo got my priorities right hey!!!
as for the weather discussion... I am surprised it took so long to appear...
just ride! Smiling

Buck's picture

So will you be sweeper with me tonight Christine? Or will you be roidy up the front Smiling

Damien's picture

Not ridden much this week should get out there.

Stuart M's picture

I'll be picking up the crumbs the broom forgot Eye-wink

Or are you a bit scared of riding at the back with me, all in the dark, so far behind everyone else? Oh, and I've got a new lycra jersey, hmm, should I wear it tonight? Maybe not, I don't want to get it wet and dirty when it starts pelting down and the trail turns to slop

christine's picture

i have a new top too!!!

Buzz's picture

Guys can't make it which is a shame, you all sound like a hoot.
