29er Talk
Theres been a bit of talk about 29er's and single speeds lately this is just what you guys all need in fact I think I might need one too but strictly for racing. Salsa say the frame only will be available early next year time to start saving.

Put the seat down and it looks like a dirt jumper.
this is a damn nice bike I want one
However it won't be available till Feb 09 according to the site
Tom
Yes it would be a SS weapon especially if set up tubless I am guessing but it could probably be built up as a sub 9kg race machine. It will be either this one or the Niner ONE9 http://www.ninerbikes.com/one9.html for me early next it will be a race bike for my serious attempt at the Solo 24hr nationals at Easter.
hardtail 29er mtb is the way to go it seems - put a set of slicks on it and it'd be a decent commuter as well as weekend off roader???
i wanna spend around 1500 - 2000, any options?
No this one really is a pure mountain bike with racing in mind a bit of a waste and overkill for commuting the frame alone will be in the $1500.00 ball park.
I was intrested in the 29er / commuter talk as a way for peoples eyes to be opened to 29er's but I have changed my mind I dont think people quite get the 29er they are mountain bikes and very capable one's at that they just happen to have the same 700c diameter wheels similar to hybrids and road bikes but thats where it ends. If you want a really fast hardtail mountain bike whether it be singlespeed or geared then a 29er cant be beaten. I am yet to ride a dually 29er but from my experience on the hardtail I know it will absolutely kick ass and when I do get one it will more likely than not be an absolute weapon both down and uphil.
For any one undecided and sitting on the fence get off it and grab a 29er mountain bike for your offroad adventures you wont regret it really. I sold both my 26inch bikes after getting the 29er and dont desire any offroad bike that runs the small wheels no matter how much travel or nice parts it has.
Its got an EBB.
hmmm, so would you use this to commute too? if so how? Just fit 38mm road tyres on the same rims?
Argh... Damien, you're killing me!!!! should I just ditch this SS commuter project and just get a proper 29 SS bike!!
I rode Pauls Karate last night up West Head and loved it!! (despite blowing all 5 lungs)
The 32-18 felt great and 32-16 would be great for commuting.
hummm.....
just been into pedals plus on oxford st, bondi junction and they have one of these built with 26" wheels but are available with 29" seems to get good reviews and cheap - the 26" with xt/xtr, rigid fork, good components and v brakes was $1300ish.
few reviews; http://www.somafab.com/comments.html
i reckon could downgrade groupset, add discs and 29" for $1500.
anyone heard much about this company/frame?
Sorry Lawrence keep going just ignore me I think I might butt out for now as I am starting to harp on a bit but I really am a diehard SS and 29er convert now but in time you will understand too no doubt. But before I go I run 42 x 17 gear ratio on my road bike with 700c wheels and 32 x 19 on the 29er off road.
The Soma's are good almost got one myself at one point.
You guys could jump on farkin and have a look around the SS and 29er threads http://www.farkin.net/forums/showthread.php?t=99047 http://www.farkin.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89508 Theres lots of good info in both of these threads.
