Scummers - what's in a name?
Or more precisely, where did the nick name "scummers" come from? I've been looking all over the net, and even asked some roadies... put me out of my misery

It seems to be a nobmob only nick name for road cycling, none of the clubs would know what you mean when asking them & more than likely would be quite offended at the thought of being called scum!
Personally I don't really care what people say or think, sticks & stones & all that.
The term 'scummers' would certainly be enough to keep some serious roadies away from nobmob that may other wise want to join in for some off road fun.

Scumming has been a common nick name for road riding from Mountain bikers since time immortal

I just never noticed the term being used anywhere else except here.
If someone is put out by a bit of name calling are they really the types you want to ride with anyway?
Being able give and take a bit of banter is all part of life, non?

The term was a Rob-ism... crazy Brits!
Anywho, other names like NoBRoB; NoBSCUM or NoBRoC have been thrown around but I'm not that fussed...
Just for those playing at home, there are almost as many members in the "Scummers" group as there are in the "Uncensored" group... (short by 5)
I don't know what the fuss is all about, it's still on 2 (human-powered) wheels...
