Where to ride?

We've just moved here from the UK and are looking for places to ride but we don't have a car. We went to Manly Dam last weekend (rode from our place in Neutral Bay) and we're looking for somewhere else to explore this weekend. Any suggestions? We've heard Oaks is accessible by train but are there other places? Also can anyone recommend a trails guide?

Thanks guys

Well I am close by, I live in Cremorne. My favourite trails are Red Hill, Menai, Ourimbah, Manly Dam and Bantry Bay, Kincumber, and anywhere else that technical riding can be found. Manly Dam continues to be your closest port of call. Plus you get all kinds of riding there. Anywhere else will involve a car trip unfortunately. As a suggestion, look out for posted rides and get a lift. Easy! Smiling

carry a book, from memory called "50 rides around sydney"

It is mountain bike specific. I got mine from Bike Addiction some time ago, sorry I can't find it now otherwise I'd give you the proper name. I'm sure other shops would also have carried it.

All that said, it was nowhere near as comprehensive as the "rides" tag on this site

Welcome

Thanks for the advice so far. Think that's the guide we have (50 off road trails) but as you said the info on this site seems more useful so we'll prob use that instead.

Thanks for the welcome too!

When I didn't have a car I went to the Royal NP a couple of times; get off at Loftus station on the blue Waterfall train line. You can ride on the trails there plus the Lady Carrington drive and also some trails in Heathcote NP across the Princes Hwy.

Welcome Bethan

You are within riding distance from some awesome trails. I would suggest getting Robs brilliant plugin for Google Earth and referencing that with the trial write ups on this site, I find the GE plugin a brilliant tool for planning new trips (in fact I'm using it right now to work out my weekends ride while everyone is on the CORC 24). From Manly Dam you can ride to many great trails if you don't mind a bit of road, the obvious choice would be over the road, follow that to Forest way then onto Cascades and/or Oxford Falls. It all depends what sort of riding you like.

Where in the UK are you from? Although it's different you certainly won't be disappointed with the riding here Smiling
