Magura Julie Disc Brake adjustment
Had some scratching noise commuting to work today on my front brake.....
had a look at the base of the bridge.. 1 front pad had worn out...
the other had about 3-4mm left on it...
so metal on metal scratching from one side...
normally I'd adjust callipers to centre on the disc.. but my Magura Julie's bolt straight onto the frame/fork... so there is no in out movement? So I cannot adjust the callipers onto the disc.. how annoying is that.

Rear is also unevenly worn due to the calliper not centering properly over the disc...
Either way I need new pads but is there any way I can fix this problem?

Hey Lozza, If the left pad is the one wearing out then you can use shimano shims to space the brake out. If it is the right pad wearing out you will need to go to the bike shop and get them to face the brake mounts for you.
Also you will need to make sure that both pistons a moving freely as this can cause the uneven wear as well.
Unfortunately.. its the outside pad which is more worn... Same on the back..
so adding a shim in would exacerbate the problem
Can I just go to town on the calliper with my dremmel?? Or the Fork/Frame?
Might I add how stupid this is.. why couldn't it mount on a bracket which can then move in and out like most other brakes!?

You will find that the brake was not that badly made though, it is more than likely a fault of the forks mounts, eg paint on the mounts.
I wouldnt try and face the fork mounts myself as it could do more damage than good. Better off to get the LBS to do it. Or buy the park tool to do the job yourself($$$$).
You just need to make sure the piston & pads are centred properly with the disk, I have had the same issue with my Maguras.
You can try putting a thin piece of cardboard between the out side pad & the disc then pulling the lever in a couple of times, I have found this little trick to be great at resetting the pistons.
Let me know if you need a hand to get it sorted, it really is a good system once you get your head around it, much easier than adjusting brakes with a mounting bracket.
Make sure you fit the new pads before adjusting anything, no point in doing it twice.
Interesting... Thanks for the tips cupcake. Once I get some new pads I'll give the re-alignment a go by jamming something on the more worn side and giving it a few squeezes...
