Whats it worth?

Hi,
I just received a medium 08 Reign 1 frame and shock(RP2)as a warranty replacement on an 06 frame that gave up on me and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on what it might be worth. Ive had a good look around online but cant find anything out there to guage its value. While I do fit on a medium with a long stem and setback seat I think I might be more comfy on a large so I can shorten up the stem etc. So now I'm thinking that I'll sell the Reign and find something else in large if the $$ difference is acceptable.

Any opinions would be great, thanks.

Subjective as the answer is always, "It's worth what you can get someone to pay for it", but...

... given a 'boutique' frame such as a 575 retails around $2600 in Sydney (something like that - don't quote me) then you would maybe look to get high teens for a brand new Reign. Maybe knock a bit off 'cos it's not an RP23 shock (although we've discussed the value of that before)?

An alternate way to look at it would be to add up cost of all the componentry you'd need to build a complete bike, take that from the RRP of the bike and there's a (very) vauge idea of the frame price. Very roughly - an XT build kit from Jenson is around $2k (USD - and you'd never find it so cheap here) and a quality fork is around $1k, think that may value the frame mid-teens? Hope I'm not doing you a dis-service here.

As discussed when we bumbed into one another this arvo, I'd say the frame would represent 40% to 50% of the complete bike full retail. So 40% of a 2008 Reign 1 retail of $2800 comes to $1120. A bargain I say, but some would say a little less with that RP2 shock as the RP23 shock would be the preferred item. That shock at present is $539 from tbsm.com.au
Nonetheless, hold firm on a price because many folk would rather a new frame and go the custom path than forking out the astonishing price that Giant has risen to, especially when one has their favourite parts pick on hand, possibly already plugged into their present frame and ready to be transferred across. Consequently that frame has real value and may fetch even more than the above suggestion, because the only way to get a Reign frame now is to buy a 2009 one model at $3800 with the same shock as your frame or the zero model, with the RP23 shock (and way better other parts) for $4800, then strip it.
Plus the colour of your one is pretty cool too.
I firmly believe it's really dumb for popular bike manufacturers to not have a frame only option from one's favourite bike shop.
