Sat 8th Local?

Yo!

I was going to be taking a newbie mate on a lap of the Dam this Sat, but he's gone soft so won't be coming. I know there's the Red Hill ride on, but would rather have a lap or three at the Dam, or perhaps 4/8 gates at Cascades - anyone else like a fairly fast-ish paced local ride? Will be aiming for a sociable 8:30-9 starting time.

I'm guessing there won't be many takers with many away at the Fling, but if there's interest let's meet up.

Cheers!

Can't do Saturday but Sunday suits me. I haven't hit the trails for a whole month Sad. Thought I better get some off road in before the Fat Tyre Fest.

... which I can't do... Sad

... but if I could, would be going to Ourimbah:

I did see this but didn't feel like the drive. I'll probably end up heading up their.

I'm shocked! Why are you not attending the Fling?

Scumming instead...

It's because I told the GF I wasn't going, and even though could pick an entry now we have a social engagement. Doh!

Yeah, Junkie... maybe I could scum to that, although I don't think they would appreciate it! Eye-wink

excuses.... I think you just had enough of punishing yourself and are now joining the social side of riding Eye-wink

The social side of riding is found off-road. The on-road variety is how you lose friends, by dropping as many 'losers' on your ride as possible and driving home before they are finished.

that's a bit harsh, no?
I don't think I can agree with road cycling being antisocial but I think you'll have to try it before judging! Smiling

I think Little Ditty hit the nail on the head, scumming is not social, after the ride it maybe but not during the actual ride.

Scumming is not about riding together, waiting for the slowest, etc, it's about going hard and fast improving fitness, going further, posting better times, etc. Now there is nothing wrong with that.

Scumming is great fitness training for real riding (off road). Simple as that, no more and no less.

Since most are away at the fling I am sure we could borrow a road bike for Liam Eye-wink
Where would you like to stop for a sociable latte?

Buzz and Ditty have been scumming in the same scumming group as one another, and yes that kind of mentality is very anti-social.

If you are doing interval training, time trials or maintaining a pace that pushes you into the high zones and you are with training partners that are above your fitness level then, as with any sport, prepared to get dropped. That is what fitness training is all about i.e. exerting yourself, not the dropping, it's merely a by-product. By training with partners that are slightly above your fitness level, you push yourself to match or better them.
Most half decent training groups will wait for all members i.e. at the end of an interval or top of a hill and if the group is large enough, may spilt to accommodate the different levels of fitness (where applicable).

If you are on a social ride and you have ppl doing that i.e. riding off and not waiting, then I suggest you don't ride with those ppl again. This unfortunately happens in MTB as well... Heck, even some rides on this very site.
There used to be a time when certain individuals would drive off after NoBMoB MTB rides, so I think it depends on the people you associate yourself with, as opposed to the discipline of cycling...
