Group Ride this weekend

I know its only Tuesday but was wondering if anyone was interested in a group ride either saturday arvo or Sunday morning this weekend.
Am open for suggestions re location although with the amount of rain we have had and showers forecast now on and off for the rest of the week I think we could rule out a few spots. Manly Dam was still wet last Thursday, I suspect that the "clay" mitch spoke about at Cascades won't be any better, maybe someone living a little closer can advise on this. I was at Terry Hills yesterday and they are in the process of grading the trail with what I suspect is the same as what was used at Cascades, ie far too much clay in the crushed sandstone, very wet and slippery. BTW the single track / overgrown firetrail behind the first lot of houses is now almost a four lane highway. Don't know how Red Hill is but was thinking maybe a bit playing around Oxford Falls could be on the cards, Moon Rock XC and Downhill. If the rain does keep up then maybe we could think about Yellowmundee or the Mountains. Happy for any other suggestions

Hi Stuart,

What times you can make it? (gingerly asked, knowing it's probably going to be a bit early).

I'm probably up for Oxford Falls Sat (although from my experience there last time, it doesn't drain well there to be honest), but Pratiwi can come Sunday so probably Terrey Hills or similar then. Last time it was wet TH turned out to be not too badly affected.

I know the Jeff & co. went out to West Head last time after rain, so if you're up for some hills then we could consider that - I'll ask him how it was.

Can do anytime Saturday arvo. Sunday an 8.30 start would be best otherwise Bernd probably won't be able to make it, that said I can do anytime Sunday. Up for hills and any suggestions at all.

Im good for a Sat arvo ride.
I'm good for the majority rule.
Not sure what Sunday morning holds for me just yet though!

Any suggestions for where on Saturday arvo that might be still in reasonable condition after the rain?

Well - I spoke to Jeff and he reckoned most of the Northern Beaches area will is saturated and National Parks would not be impressed with riders adding to the errosion this will no doubt cause.

I'm guessing places with big, wide, well draining fire trails would be OK then? Snoozy Terrey Hills?

Now that they have graded it, all of TH is certainly big and wide. I'm good for TH sat arvo say 2.30 - 3ish, or is this getting too late? Out of interst would Cascades be as good for drainage, it is a little less "snoozy" as you put it and it hasn't been graded as recently so the "clay" may have had time to settle down a little more.

Sunday Morning. Bernd is thinking a trip to Yellowmundee might be a good idea for a drier choice of trails. Rob I think YBH would be OK with that don't you, particulalry if we miss the slippery boardwalk drop where I bent my bars. We can make a decision on this Saturday arvo depending on how wet that ride is if you want.

Im ok with Terry Hills this Sat but if your up for the Cascades (which being a valley drains very quickly) I'd be only to happy to show the un-initiated, the technical down hill section off the new netball courts (sick I know)

Hello!
I won't be going anywhere this weekend, just come back to work from being sick...however! I walked the dogs at red hill this morning and it's really really wet - and that's just on my side which drains the best...puddles galore and one was so deep even my wellies weren't long enough!
I was thinking about dragging Sean (he who doesn't like bike riding) around Narrabeen Lakes on Sunday afternoon - does any one know how wet that will be at all?

Greg,
Rob has pulled the plug and the weather doesn't look that great at the moment. Happy to do Cascades if the rain stops. I'll call you on the mobile by 12 to firm things up. BTW you know the things I baulked at when we rode Red Hill, am I wasting both of our time contemplating the technical down hill?

id say tomorrow looks like a no go with more wet weather forcast.

let see what happens then shall we?

Isn't it funny how you can get an ex-president out camping for a whole weekend (even though Justin snores) but you can't get him on a bike for an hour? Looks like he needs more pressuring...hint, hint.

Mate he wasn't the only one absent on the weekend. I was the only fool / sucker that showed up at Cascades. Maybe the rest put more weight on Mitchs' comments than on Pikeys. I have to say though they were both right. I got wet, very wet and covered in mud. Add to that the fact that Pikey was right, being a valley it really does drain well, it drains the surrounding suburbs that is, I had a great couple of hours. Probably did about 6 months wear on the bike in that couple of hours but what the hell, was all good.

Learnt a couple of good lessons,
1 take the 2.3inch nobbies off the bike before you ride in the mud, this stuff really does stick like the preverbial to a blanket,
2 buy some mud guards for front and back, or atleast a really good mask to keep the sh&* out of your mouth,
3 stay away from Cascades if you don't like to climb. Jeez I've got a short memory

Can't wait to get back there, whats doing this weekend all?
