Ourimbah Ride
North End of Red Hill Rd, Ourimbah State Forest. There's a large-ish parking area here, just off the main sealed road. There is also a smaller parking area a little further (400m or so from the road) where the trail splits - this second area is the usual meeting point. If you end up driving up a steep hill you've gone too far.
heya
im really keen on checking out the ourimbah forest
ive never been and was wondering if anybody would be keen to go for a ride and show me the track(s)
id be looking at going sometime in december
maybe, 14th (sunday) or 20th/21st of dec Dec 14
[ Ed. don't post in the calendar unless you are defo for this date... which it looks like you are! ]

Mark
I dont ride my bike, my bike rides me... we are currently in counseling...
14th is good for me also
nice
good to see others interested in this ride
14th is looking good so far
hey guys, i always jump at the chance to ride at ourimbah and will probably be able to make this ride but i'll wait until closer before locking in. what sort of riding/pace should i expect?
not to slow not to fast
from what i can tell the guys who have said theyre coming havent done ourimbah either, so id say its gonna be cruisy ride to learn the area.
thats my guess anyway
I would imagine pace to be social and exploratory

i met 3 guys riding around manly dam on sunday who are pretty keen to join us on this exploratory ride around ourimbah
ive given them the link to this site so they can sign up and check where to meet up.
so as long as they show up, we'll have 3 more in the group!
are we all cool to meet at about 10am?
or would you prefer 11am? gives us that extra hour to sleep in
Hi,
I live near Ourimbah and ride/run/walk there often (mostly alone). Would be great to hookup with others. Is this ride on Sunday mainly to do the XC track or are you interested in general exploring of Ourimbah State Forest ?
Being a forest there are lots of trails (mostly dead ends), so not a lot of loops possible, but still lots of good trails off Red Hill Road.
Cheers
Mick
hey mick, id say its mainly XC, but were gonna explore the area as well considering none of us have been there
would be good if we could end up doing some sort of loop, but not really necessary
would be great if you came along considering you know the area
having a guide always helps
Hey Adam
You'll probably end up having so much fun on the XC loop that you'll find yourself riding just that. If not for any other reason other than 'the drop' - you'll want to ride another loop just so you can go down it again and again. It's a lot a fun Just keep your eye out for the Downhill guys and you'll be fine.
Ourimbah has arguably the sweetest single track around.
Enjoy your ride
Phil
yeah im really looking forward to the ride
how long is the XC loop?
Just under 11km
hey adam there is a very good, long established xc loop at ourimbah. it starts at the car park (dirt) and is about 11 km (rough estimate). lately it has been nice to have signsposts pointing the way thanks to a recent race there...they should help you find your way around the loop. and the xc loop is seperate to the downhill run so that isn't a problem.
cool sounds good
looking forward to it
be in for this ride, though i will be attending a christmas party with free alcohol the night before.so maybe a little slow & groggy. If i'm not there when you are ready to begin start without me & i will find you.
sweet...looking forward to meeting you guys at about 10am
blueray, nothing like a bike ride to work off that hang over
orright guys...tomorrows the day we explore ourimbah!
im leaving hornsby at about 9am, should take me about an hour to get there *hopefully*
im having a bit of a late one tonight so i hope to be on time
guys, my mobile number is 0418 696 845 if you need to call me to find out where i am
i got a blue subaru, so you cant miss me.
see you all there!
adam.
well i had a great day riding around ourimbah, i gotta say that the XC track is fantastic
there arent any major steep climbs as most of it is very gradual
going through the single trails was awesome, im most defeitely gonna do this ride again very soon..maybe do 3 laps this time as i only did 2..
good to see you again Jay, hopefully next time your bike wont break down
at least the day was productive in the way that we both learnt how to change a bike into single speed
its only a matter of time i have do the same changes to my bike!
looking forward to our next ride, hopefully mark and the others can join us next time
we'll have to organise something during the xmas break
Surely not!
Bad luck Jay, hopefully it wasn't too costly...
Ourimbah is a favourite for many, just so much non-MTB stuff on at the moment, so it may be difficult to get everyone together during the 'silly season'.
The new year should see a few ppl heading over that for some enduro training and the likes...
Somehow I knew you'd like it
How'd you find the drop?
what part of the track was that?
You'd remember the drop. If you did the XC circuit then there's no way I know of how you could miss it.
It's quite earlier on in the loop at about the 2km mark. Looks like this: http://nobmob.com/node/916
2km into the ride the chain got caught between the bottom gear on the rear derailleur and the casing, casing has a crack in it, I've got spares at home so not too expensive.
Took a few attempts to get the right chain length for the single speed conversion, thank god for the PowerLink. Rode for a couple more km and then found the rear derailleur had moved and was hitting the cassette, so took the derailleur off and tucked the cable away in the chain guard.
Absolutely loved the track, looking forward to going again during my time off over Christmas. Only did the one lap, wasn't sure how long the chain would hold out.
Thanks for your patience Adam, was great to meet you again. Hopefully I've got all my bad luck out of the way, and have no issues for a while now.
Will post pics of the Single Speed tonight.
The drop was just after the single speed converstion... it didn't look too bad from the bottom, actually looked nicer then the B line we rode down
ohh yeah, that was cool!
the first lap i did with jay we went around the big drop, i think thats the part where it said path A and B with B being the easier way around...
but the 2nd lap i did i went down the drop, i thought i was go over the handle bars it felt so steep but i some how managed to survive and then was thinking hmm...that wasnt as bad as it looks
wouldnt wanna do that drop quickly thou, i value my life
jay, all good man, not your fault the rear derailer failed and anyways, it was good to get some on hand repairs experience
even if i was mainly looking on
Tell me about it. I was packing it on the approach on my first lap of the Fat Tyre race last month. But it's actually even more fun at speed. And when the pressure's on and you have another rider behind you you just have to let the adrenaline take over and go for it. My hearts racing just thinking about it. What a rush!
nice one!
well i hope that when i gain a bit more confidence on my bike ill try it a bit faster then snail pace
