The Mont 24 Hour

As many of you may well know, I wish to form a team for the Mont next April. Presently and theoretically this team already consists of Evan, aka 'Ev' and Anke, aka 'Anke13' and myself.
My plan is to enter the mixed fours category though since we already have one girl a rider of either gender is welcome to join. It would seem that if the team were to consist of three blokes and Anke, then that's sufficiently mixed...
Therefore the call goes out for a fourth team member. Woman or man. I'd've invited Whisperer yet he's a tad quick for us.
Our team will be of the enthusastic participation type. By all means sign up, go nuts and ride till you drop or simply have a lovely weekend lapping the great track that is Sparrow Hill.
I'll handle the entries when the remaining member is found and the team name could very well be 'Team El Rancho Relaxo' and if I get over run with enthusiastic applications we may very well end up a mixed team of six! Imagine all that relaxation!
For those with reservations such as 'I don't have lights and would rather not fork out all that brass for some' then fear not. Anke and I will handle night lapsif need be or I can swap my lights around the bikes. And for any newbies that feel they can't cope with a race then nonsense! If I can do it anyone can.

GeordieAndy's picture

Pete,

I'd be keen to join a team that will not be competing at the front of the pack!

I could even wear a skirt if it helps the balance of the team Smiling (Insert get out clause here)

I don't have lights but there's plenty of time to sort that out.

Andy. (I met you briefly at Ourimbah the other weekend).

delicious's picture

Mate if you're keen, you're in. No mucking about here. I'm in a hurry to get this finalised because I have this German girl harrasing me almost daily about finding the fourth team member and then submitting the entry.
So send me a PM telling me all about how keen you are to be a part of Equipo El Rancho Relaxo. While you're at it tell me whether you prefer coffee or tea, name your favourite sandwich fillings including condiments and perhaps you could reveal the colour and type of your underwear that goes with the skirt....If it turns out to be white and frilly then I've already guessed it.

delicious's picture

Equipo El Rancho Relaxo will now be a Mixed Six Pack and requires one more rider. A lady would be tops. Entries on the back of a postcard to the usual address please...

christine's picture

eternal optimist aren't you? There are no other girls who actually ride with us left!!
you need a 'nooobie'! Smiling
who is your team so far then? last I heard you had four...

Bernd's picture

.. us:
NoBMob Big Test Icicles
Team Members:

Andy B
Bri
Dibbler
Bernd
Sarina

delicious's picture

You could jump ship y'know. Bribes can be arranged. Those bribes can involve food.
Our team, Equipo El Rancho Relaxo, which curiously translates to mean nothing sensible at all, consists of the following dedicated cyclists;
Anke aka Anke13
Ev aka Evan
Wayne aka Bikeboy104
Andy aka GeordieAndy
and yours truly. Therefore we need one more rider to complete the six pack.

GeordieAndy's picture

Anymore female interest?!

christine's picture

involving food and beer would work with me, however in this instance i am very secure in the fact that there will be no shortage of either as we have fun food orientated team who also drink a bit! (and now, it's not Pauls usual crowd!!!)
i MAY know a girl who MAY be interested, but she is a bit of a newbie - would you like me to put in a good word for you?!!!

MEE Smiling

GeordieAndy's picture

DO know a girl who may be interested, or you DON'T know a girl who may be interested or you could possibly bump into a girl who may be interested between now and April?!!!!!!!!! Smiling

Or all of the above depending on what bribe we offer?!

On behalf of the team captain please put a good word in! And let her know she has 4 months to become a not-so-newbie Smiling

christine's picture

know girl who has started riding and she MAY be interested and she is open to bribes! She is also a Kiwi so fits in your multicultural theme...
I will see how keen she is, or can be made to be - she looked at me as if I was an alien when I told her about the 24hour races though!!

delicious's picture

I often wonder if you are from another planet...
And please, by all means, put in a good word.

GeordieAndy's picture

How are we doing with the recruitment? Are we in shape to enter soon?

I've taken the mantle on from Anke !

anke13's picture

for our team. Give me a few days and I'll confirm Smiling

Bikeboy's picture

Hey guys , should we get our entry in soon and throw in a name that we can change if need be when we find our mystery swedish/ kiwi or aussie girl

anke13's picture

We should definitely get our entry in and make up a name for the sixth person. I'm sure we'll find someone closer to the date.

delicious's picture

Relax folks. After the festive season has ended I'll enter our team. I may very well have a sixth member and if that person backs out then hopefully Ankes' one will be solid. Either way I'll be asking for all of Team Relaxo to cough up the cash for me to make the entry. So go to the Mont 24hr site to find out the damage so that it's not me breaking the bad news....

kiwigirl's picture

if you are looking for a female especially of kiwi origins. Had a couple of months off the bike but want to get back into it and get fit again. Smiling

Never done a 24hr or night riding but sounds like fun!

delicious's picture

I've PM'd kiwigirl and hopefully she'll join up for sure. So everyone else who wishes to be a part of Team El Rancho Relaxo now is the time to save your pennies because very soon I'll be asking for ya'll to cough up the required cash and also to provide me with the necessary personal details in order to submit our entry...

Bikeboy's picture

Has a very keen member here , rode Sparrow hill on Saturday with my new Anthem then proceeded to get drowned by a hail storm . How many of team relaxo know each other ?? by the way !!

delicious's picture

I know Evan well and we have teamed up on two occasions previously. I also know Anke and have ridden with her on an irregular basis...

anke13's picture

Delicious was talking about a trip to Sparrow Hill for those of us who have never ridden the trail before. We could use that as a team bonding ride Smiling

Bikeboy's picture

Sounds good as i wont be the only odd bod now !!

Bikeboy's picture

I now love the place after riding the new bike there on Saturday !!
If you havnt been there you will love the place ,from memory there is over 40 k of single track to explore
Let me know when and i will be there with bells on .
The next race i am doing is the Sparrow hill tour with 20 , 32 and 42 K options in Feb with CORC so worst case it would be a good training run

anke13's picture

I have just upgraded to cleats, so I'm doing lots of riding at the moment. I have 2 triathlons in February (1st and 21st), so it would be great to ride Sparrow Hill after 21st Feb.

kiwigirl's picture

as I don't really know any of you. I live in the south unfortunately but can make rides at the weekends. I may be away overseas from 18th Feb for 4 weeks is the only downer for training. Keen for rides before then closer to home.

Bikeboy's picture

i live in the south too , (Mt Annan) and i dont know anyone either ( sure we really will after the weekend of the Mont though ) At the moment week night rides are good for me too

delicious's picture

For those who live in the south, I ride at Menai a lot and know the trails well. So lets ride there. Together. I reckon I could string together some sections to create a challenging loop and we could go there and repeat the loop over and over. Some would refer to this as riding a lap (singular) or riding laps (plural) and this could very well cause us to bond, increase our ability and fitness and then ruin it all by drinking a beer afterwards.

Damien's picture

I want to / should ride down there more often its no further to Meani for me than any of the other rides we do.

anke13's picture

Laps are great for building confidence, which is what I need (lots of). I'll be upgrading my tyres very soon and also stick a softer spring into my shocks, so I don't bounce off the trail.

Bikeboy's picture

come and race in the sparrow hill tour , from memory there are three distance options with 20 , 32 and 42 k . The race is on the 8th feb ( one week before the sydney 24 ) and it will give whoever hasnt ridden there a great feel for what we will be contending with in april

And i will join you for a ride in Menai , time permitting ...... When were you thinking of ?????

Little-Ditty's picture

I can vouch for Menai - it is good. Smiling The only problem is it will make Sparrow look pretty tame in comparison. But Menai has a great mix of fast and sweet single track, plus adrenaline building techy bits.

delicious's picture

Well I'll ask for some opinions right now. How does everyone feel about a late Sunday arvo ride? Really late. This is due to me giving up my weekends to explore my new career as a bike shop guy. So I work the weekend.
I finish at 4pm so I could post a ride for say 5.30pm for two hours or so and make it pretty much XC only. Even Liam could come and bring his Anthem. Yes mate I know it's a school night but bend the rules just for me ok?
So everyone, get back to me on this and I'll post it up. Any Sunday is ok as I pretty much do this each Sunday anyway. Or Yellomundee...

Bikeboy's picture

Sunday Yellomundee sounds great for me , happy to make either location anyway ! It may be hot in menai thats all

kiwigirl's picture

I've ridden there a few times myself and it's good for getting the technical skills
up. I'm keen for any Sunday at 5.30pm, how about this Sunday weather permitting?

Bikeboy's picture

OK Meani would be good .... weather dependant , not looking great at this point though . It would be nice to meet some of my fellow 24 hour team mates out there on any trail anyway

Count me in !!!

evan's picture

Unfortunately due to an off @ the NobMob BBQ @ Manly Dam, I won't be MTBing for a couple of weeks. Looks as tho I have cracked a couple of ribs Sad

My riding will be limited to the black stuff unfortunately.

Cheers
Evan

Rob's picture

I know we shouldn't poke fun at injuries and all that, but come on Ev... cracked ribs again!? You have chopsticks in your chest or something?! Sticking out tongue

evan's picture

Cracked the ribs, split the helmet and was concussed for 2 days.
Still have the left over bruises on the legs.

The old front tyre came out from under me on a quick corner trick.

delicious's picture

I cannot do it this Sunday mostly due to other stuff on, which is simply the silly season overflow. Pretty soon all the rellies will leave and return to where they originated...
And Sunday the 11th is also out because of the Yellowmundee race in the morning, and I'm not going there to ride that and then front up in Menai too. I'm keen, but not that keen.
How about the 18th? About 18.00hrs? Maybe bring lights... Even a start at that time will give us a couple hours of daylight though. Trust me, I do this often.

kiwigirl's picture

I will be back from NZ on the 17th so a ride on the Sunday 18th will be good to blow out the cobwebs Smiling

Bikeboy's picture

so i can start building up more brownie points on the home front
18 jan 6pm at Meani ......Team toasted training / bonding ride ???

kiwigirl's picture

if the weather's ok then good for me Smiling
does anyone want to post an official ride?

Bikeboy's picture

I would but have no idea how to do this .....i suppose i should read the instructions but i am too lazy this time of year . I am booked in though , also weather dependant

Damien's picture

Did Menai today with Gav and V we got totaly lost sort off and a two hour ride turned into a four hour epic but thats half the fun isnt it. Due to mechanicals and physical melt downs (not mine) we ended riding back along the road like we did on a previous nobmob ride but it was a lot of fun and a great ride.

delicious's picture

Team Toasted? This is for Team El Rancho Relaxo. If another team is also there they may find out our team secrets, and we can't have that.
I'll post up a ride for that afternoon on the 18th, provided no one else has beaten me to it.

anke13's picture

I have a wedding on 17th, but I could make sure I'm fit for a ride the next day. But some of us have to get ready for work on Sunday night. If we have to ride on 18th, could we please make the ride earlier than 6pm? Otherwise, I won't be able to join you for this one Sad

delicious's picture

Okay you motley lot, the time has arrived to make our entry. Team El Rancho Relaxo consists of the following NobMobbers; Ev, Anke13, Bikeboy104, GeordieAndy, Kiwigirl and me. I require all of you to PM or email me your details which are full name, D.O.B., email address, residential address and applicable phone numbers and your MTBA race licence number if you are licenced.
All this excitement is going to cost each of us $145 but will be $15 less for those who are licenced.
Then prepare yourselves to pay me. I'll give instructions about this once I've received all details. Once I've received all monies then I'll make the entry.
Please, nobody drop out. This is going to be great. There is absolutely nowhere else anyone needs to be that weekend.

Bikeboy's picture
