but how tall is the maximum height for this bike? i have a friend who is over 6ft who NEEDS a new bike but he says he needs a large frame.. is this true?

Not sure if that helps. Medium Giants are 18". Your friend probably needs a large, but Im no expert.
I am 183cm which apparently equals 6'. I'm not sure though because the metric system was introduced in Australia in 1947 and I really have no clue about imperial measurements. Since its been sixty-one years, perhaps everyone should get with it...
In any case both my Giants are a medium and I even installed a shorter stem on the Reign. The Trance is very similar in most respects. I reckon your friend with six feet would be perfectly comfy on a medium.
The rule of thumb is to ride the smallest frame one can get away with. And with the biggest tyres that will fit!
