When:
Tuesday, 6 January, 2009 - 12:00
Duration:
2 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Manly Dam
Meeting Point:

King Street (near corner with Arana Street), Manly Vale. You know - outside Manly Hydraulics Lab.

-33.781501, 151.258115 (Manly Hydraulics Lab)
Details:

As discussed - I have to be in Manly earlier in the morning so will take the bike and head to the Dam for few laps after. Plus - Blondie has organised a Cascades/Wildflower-ish ride for the weekend so best to skip there.

Don't mind moving the ride 'til a bit later to accommodate riding buddies but think I may be there even sooner and have done a lap before midday anyhow. Depends how things go.

Perhaps we should also go over to Bantry Bay and ride down the firetrail to the water... you know - just for fun Eye-wink

Who's in?
Rob, pikey, Harry, ar_junkie, Andy Bloot

Oh well, I'm back at work tomorrow. Although seeing as its going to be 33 degrees tomorrow an air conditioned office isn't looking too bad. At least thats what I keep telling myself Smiling

Pick the hottest part of the day why don't ya... Eye-wink

May have to turn it into a biathlon with a swim between laps?
Cool

Hey Rob, looks like you hit 101%. wicked. was that on the hill at the dam by chance?
what equipment do you need to have all that motion based data?

Andy Bloot's picture

If Rob reached 101% then I reached 1001%

A bit slow...that's because he and Junkie had to wait for the old farts up the back

And by the way, Rob's social rides mean he doesn't stop talking

And by the way again - great ride on some new trails (for me anyway) despite the heat

Is all you need for the motion based stuff Eye-wink
Models 305 and above for the HR stuff.

i might just have to get one.do they have them on torpedo? wheres the best place?

Rob's picture

Nah... I'm just a little out of shape with a few weeks of hols. 187bpm max it says today? Hit 193bpm last week with the first ride back. That is pretty much max'd out for me though.

As others have said - data comes from a Garmin Edge 305, which is old hat now. T7 doesn't do them so cheapest place in Aus is GPS-OZ or Ryda I believe. Or Geoman Gear (or search in Froogle or Spadout) if you don't mind ordering from O/S.

Hey Rob
I notice that little spur you took off the dam down to Bantry Bay. I've only ever gone on to that side of the Parkway a couple of times and never to where you went. Is it worth the trip? What's the descent/ascent like?

Phil

That little drop down almost to (almost) the water's edge is rather Cascades-ish. It's a bit sandy in places, has a few water bars, etc, etc. Nice little training ride out, eh Greg? Eye-wink

It's all firetrail so 100% legal Smiling

pikey's picture

Rob tried to kill us. 30+ Deg C Temp....I've reported him to docs!

We did one rather quick lap of the dam, Andy Bloot agreed, then on our return to the cars was advised by Rob and Junkie
that if we joined them for another lap it would be slower, harry saw through their lie and went home.
For the next 2.5 hours Andy and I were taken hostage by two of our prominent roid boys as we explored this newish legal frontier.

Yes Phil the western site of Bantry bay is worth a ride down there, then back via a few streets
(a bit easier than Cascades, but don,t tell Christine!)
