Duration:

Ride Database Entry:
Menai (Lucas Heights)
Meeting Point:

By the sports field on Old Illawarra Road, Barden Ridge.

-34.037591,151.006672 (Old Illawarra Rd)
Details:

Here is a real mountain bike ride in the dark with technical obstacles and nice single track come out on Wednesday night for a blast around Menai.

This is a technical ride so good lights and some competent off road night riding skills are required this will generally be a social to medium paced ride depending on who turns up but we will always wait for the slower riders on the night with that in mind you will still need a reasonable level of bike fitness so its probably not a suitable outing for absolute beginners.

There are multiple tracks and routes on this ride and we are still finding our way around all of them so it is likely that we may get a little lost at times but so far we have found our way back without to much trouble but that is half the fun. The duration of this ride is 1.5hrs but can blow out to 2hrs while we figure out the tracks so plan for that time frame with lights and water.

Tour barbies welcome so if any one who rides here regularly wants to join us and show us the trails you are more than welcome.

I'll trade you my intimate knowledge of these trails for a less hare like pace. Deal?

Damien's picture

Peter you have a deal it is a social mid week ride after all and we did end up slowing down the pace a bit anyway.

I'll click that star.

Those brownie points are a bugger to calculate.

Damien's picture

Generaly dont need to use any for mid week night rides.

Bikeboy's picture

Are ALWAYS needed when you have five kids and a bike obsession

Bikeboy's picture

Like i have accrued enough points to come out and play !!!!! Although i am not sure what to expect as there seems to be some pretty keen and i presume quick riders and i am unsure how my training has gone , hopefully enough to keep up . We shal see

Traditionally, I occupy the position of last place. This position is also referred to as 'tailgunner', 'slow coach', 'the tortise' and sometimes even 'lucky last'. That is not to be confused with the rider who sweeps, who is often Damien himself, which is quite possibly the reason I know Damien so well.

look forward to my only 2nd ride @ Menai!!

It will be a social pace I will always ride at the groups speed sometimes out front but I also like to cruise at the back as well. Peter will probably lead the way (because he knows the track) and I will sweep for this one.

Another top ride thanks to Peter for showing us the way around these endless multiple tracks.
