I'D say yeah if it was a riding demonstration type of thing. Say for instance they were going to shut down Manly Dam then id ride round and round for hours as a peaceful type of demonstration and hopefully there'd be heaps of others also to show some serious numbers.
Is that the kind of thing you had in mind Rob? or should i have just answered the question
Would you have to make up one of those slogans the mob could chant, for when the camera's turn up?
Well - what I thought would be symbolic is if we all took a walk with our bikes ('cos riding them would be illegal) along some of the Oxford Falls tracks that have been in the clamp down. Little Moab or XC circuit for example. All spread out in a big line and get some shots from the air. It makes prime time news and the Premier calls and says sorry and that he'll have a word with NPWS and get it opened back up straight away.
Ah... we can but dream
Why not organise a day, post it here and on farkin, have a chat to Mick Ross at aussie MTB mag maybe he can get you a mention? Then on said day organise a bbq, maybe even try have the bbq sponsored by an LSB or two? Then we take a walk with our 'push' bikes, makes sure the channel 9 chopper is watching, come back to a park on say wakehurst parkway, feed up on snags and have a few beers & laughs...
Yes we can dream.... well i just did.
I say yes and lets do "al naturale" just to ensure media attention and also conveying the spirit how we like to commune with nature. I have many "acquaintances" who would join in this.
To show we are responsible we would need to slip slop slap together and wear some protection on our heads.
It might be a good idea for some of us to do a little pruning of the bush first, so the chopper can get a better view of the action.

A petition may be more effective?
Thoughts?
Cheers

Nah - the most effective way is to show the powers that be how annoyed we all are about this is by writing to them individually.
1000 letters has much more weight than 1000 signatures on a petition.
For the Hornsby council submissions recently
Those submissions that were from a 'form' letter were all counted as one
some discussion on this topic earlier and the consensus at the time was resoundingly that it was not a good idea.
so I have answered maybe but a firm supporter of the continued lobby.
I now believe (as did others when a demonstration was mooted, I was converted) there are better and cleverer ways. Like targeting the key players firstly, and then inviting them on a ride, even supplying a loaner bike and kit if necessary and of course notifying and inviting the media along as well with a clear message to convey.
The demonstation, as such, should be of the sheer numbers of social riders enjoying what Sydney (Northern Beaches) has to offer and what beauty those trails hold. Also demonstrated is the courteous and social aspects of our hobby (sport) together with the minimal impact. Health benfits are obvious.
If the key players become "converted" and there is a coordinated and structured approach from all the MTB groups we stand the biggest chance of success.
Tony Abbott would come I am sure, as he is an avid cyclist.
Like everything else in the naughties, its about marketing and perception. I believe this is the key.
Mass ride? 1000 mtb'ers massing at the oval at Terry Hills and riding duck holes then back around through centre track.
Get on ya bike day!
A short film on Nobmob, youtube etc..
Just my 2 pacific peso's worth.
