Riding in a furnace

Just like the Blair Witch Project, what started out as a fun bike ride turned into a battle against the elements. Those elements tried their hardest to claim us, but we stood up to the heat with our courage and conviction, and finally made it to the end.

I will have to remember for the future that rides like this should really be called off after a couple of hours. Our rate of water usage even at the start was off the scale. But it got even more when the heat piled on as the day wore on. The hell we went through at the end, walking up the hills of the last major fire road after the creek, in 40 something degree heat, sun belting down intolerably, out of water, out of stamina, out of our minds.

Despite the duress we were under, at least the photos provide some humour given the grim situation.

To those 7 sorry remaining other riders, I apologise for even suggesting that we continue on with that ride. Although nothing too bad happened, it could have been much more so. So lets learn the lesson, always respect Mother Nature.
