anyone know a spray painter who would spray a bike frame?
i want to re spray a hardtail frame of mine and need a pro job done on it. Does anyone know of a good spray painter who would take the job of painting it a single colour. I'd prep it and undercoat it then take it away for new decals then bring it back for the clear coat. I'd do it myself but its a very nice frame and want a very nice job done.

I believe Pikey was talking about getting his own frame repainted. He said he knew someone so get in touch with him.
It'll last longer when you crash. No seriously it is harder wearing (and lighter)

I had my Hardtail done there.
just make sure you look in which Pink you want!!!!

but i think the guys at the anodizing place will have a great laugh at my expense when i turn up with a carbon frame!
I'm with Stu on this one. I never have to worry about paint chips and it easy to keep clean. You do however still get rub marks from cables.
Edit: GAZZA, I posted this as you were typing your response
i want it done local so i can get the decals put on then sent back for clear coat. I'll save money also by preparing it myself. I recon a car spray guy could do a good enough job on it. I only want one colour and no, its not pink!
May be you could get a local panel shop to do it for you.
Sorry mate.
You know you'll get a better job if you let them do all the prep

I got a price from:
Dean the owner of Brookvale Powdercoating
20 Ethel Ave, Brookvale
9938 5042
Who charges up to $120 + GST per frame.
(If you plan or fluke a colour there’ve doing in that run the cost could be $60 + GST)
However we need to first get the frames sand blasted from:
Advanced sand blasting
50 Orchard Rd
Brookvale
9905 6822
And they charge aprox $40 + GST per frame
Now the problem for some is that you’re limited to the DULUX powedercoat range

As Buck said, I have been thinking about getting my heritage listed 2006 Giant Reign frame back to its original glory as is it is starting to look a bit sorry (from all the times Buck runs into me!)

but does the powder coat look as good as paint once its glossed and also, dont they have to run an electrical charge through the frame to attract the powder, will that damage or even work at all on the carbon?
Works by spraying a negative charged colored powder onto the frame that is positively charged so yes you would need a metal frame bike, and then baking it under heat lamps (like an oven) so now that I know your talking about a carbon frame I think you would need normal paint however I would also recommend finding out off somebody what paints and solvents are OK to use on a carbon frame???? (why not just use a paint brush and give it a good coat of mission brown)

Good luck

Make sure you get someone who is familiar with coating carbon...

Got my carbon clear coated by the Aussie legend - used by trade with a very long history he used to paint Paino's.
Cost $210.00
Star Enamellers
Contact Peter 02 9790 1025
24 Exceller Ave, Bankstown NSW 2200
very helpfull as always! i'd like to go with this guy in bankstown but its a bit of a drive if i've gotta go there twice( once for paint and again for clear coat after the decals are applied)
decals to put on. If he can spray well, I'm sure he'd be able to put on a few stickers where you want them.
Think outside the box Gaz, it's really quite amazing what you'll come up with.

my brain's a little fuzzy after yesterdays festivities!
gazza,
definately take it to a pro place, i have heard spraying carbon is not as easy as you might think, i believe you can't prep it like you would alloy, hence would be better to get a pro job.
i have painted 2 bikes in acrylic paint, but those were both older alloy bikes (a few years ago) and haven't done another frame since then.
cheers ADZ
Star Enamellers; $210 involved wet sanding all paint/decals off the carbon frame and then clear coated entire frame.
Peter can arrange decals (additional cost), but I preferred the stealth of carbon...
.....Since we are talking about a Huffy (Specialized) frame just duck down to Kmart and pick up a can of frosty enamel and some replacement Huffy Decals, much cheaper Aye!
On a serious note (yes hard to believe) I think your frame stripped back to bare carbon then painted clear would be a real head turner! People would think is that a carbon Huffy?....ok sorry I tried to be serious ...can't do it!

Hey dude, I can't see why you would want to desecrate a carbon frame by painting it. Most people with carbon just want to show if off, but maybe your not one of those guys into bling.
If I was buying a carbon frame that had been painted (aftermarket) I would be thinking "what is the paint covering up".
If you want added protection go for a tough clear coat instead.
Go Big or Go Home
it has a factory paint job on it anyway. it just has a few chips and cable marks here and there, and to someone in the know, its obviously a 2007 team paint job.
now most of you know that when you see that lovelly carbon weave on non painted frames that its just a top layer for show. high modulus carbon looks nothing like that so ive decided to go a new pro paint job. the only problem now is which colour!!!!!
You obviously don't know Gazza very well. Bling bling to the max, baby!!
Obviously a colour that makes you stand out from the crowd
like these? with a 3D effect...?
Cheers, Hans

You now what a new coloured bike means? matching helmet, shoes...
On the trails these days you can tell a Giant or Specialized from miles away because of the boring paint jobs they have. Every 2nd bike you see on the trail is a frigg'n Giant and every bike you see by the side of the trail is a Specialized.
What you want are people doing a double-take and whispering "what type of bike is that" and to do this IMHO they are only 2 colours to go for the deepest deepest stealth black with black decals or the most brilliant brilliant white with white decals.
If it were me I would go stealth black - possibly with bling red anodized hubs

are you a mind reader or something???
the white frame, just don't tell Liam, we all know what he thinks about both white frames and white lycra.
PS, hope you don't ride muddy trails, maybe you should invest in a rear mudguard just in case.
And Buzz, why go to the effort of stealth to make people turn heads when you can just get a head turning bike in the first place

"or the most brilliant brilliant white with white decals."
my xc bike is white!!!! and it will have white sidewall tyres soon!!!! also it will have white little bar ends soon and I'm 'thinking about" white handle bars.... but I will NOT wear white lycra, you are very save, Stuart and Liam and Beany and .....
