Details:

I've been asked to con some suckers talk some willing volunteers into helping out with some track building at Del Rio, in preparation for the Sydney 24.

If you ride trails loads but don't ever build here's your chance to learn all about it and help out.

Show up for the weekend (see Saturday's meeting) or just one day, I believe free camping at Del Rio is on offer for helpers. They have a bar and pool to cool down in later. There might be BBQ food on offer too, but am not sure - best bring some food just in case!

If you can come, please do. You'll get a sneak peak of the Sydney 24 course and also help build it. The more hands we get, the better it will be (read, "the more sniggle we can build to smooth out that brutal climb"), so come on! Sticking out tongue

Rob Cross Training? Yesterday I was speaking to a fellow rider who was scoffing at my 'training' lately, and didn't think spending a day playing with trail building would help. Well, I'm here to tell you that if you get stuck into it, trail building is as good a...

Were you there and have a story to tell?

How did you manage to convince your partner to help us dig Rob? You must have a lot of brownie points saved up.

Buck - you still don't know how to get a woman to do anything you ask? You must be doing something wrong! Eye-wink

Nah - actually Pratiwi is quiet excited to come along and help with the 'volunteer work'. I told her it would be like gardening, only shifting more dirt and rocks than in the planter on our balcony.

Really sorry guys, can't make this now (worst luck, would love to get to know the track a bit before the event).

Have a good day...

Hey, I finally got to ride the trails at Del Rio over the weekend, It is great to see new trail poping up all over the place.
I must admit that I was a little taken as to how tough the switchback climbs were, It would of been VERY hard to ride these at the Sydney 24hr.

I understand that trail building in these rocky conditions is very tough but thought that i would put up a link to some photos taken from a track that was been built back in NZ.

I know we dont have dirt like there to play with but maybe we need to consider some of their building practices and adopt them to suit syndey conditions. the idea of building benching and backfilling usingh rocks rather than dirt would make the likes of the switchback far more ridable while still keeping the technical challenge there along with helping control water run off etc.

Im all up for helping build substainable trails and I think to do that well it requires a little bit more groud work to start with but the end results are worth it.

you don't know how happy your post made me - if you thought those switchbacks were tough that means i am not such a girl after all!!
it was a fun ride though at the 24hr!
