$1.7 billion for "critical deferred maintenance" in the National Park System
No, sorry - not here!
It's all monopoly money over in the US of A anyhow, so why wouldn't they slosh some the way of the National Parks? Google around and you'll discover in the recent economic stimulus program $1.7 Billion has been set aside for "critical deferred maintenance" in National Parks. This includes trail building.
Interestingly many people think this isn't justified as part of the economic stimulus. Like... durh... fix up the parks, get the people in them, buying boots and coats and backpacks and bikes and stuff. Jobs for rangers, jobs for maintenance contractors, jobs for people collecting park fees, jobs for people serving food in park cafes, etc, etc, etc. Sounds logical to me!
K.Rudd... are you listening?
