Remember when nobmob rides were social?
Remember when we stopped for a beer at the look out?
Remember when we could take the mickey out of ourselves or others without being censored?
Remember when we waited for the slowest rider at regular intervals?
Remember when we had a chat and a laugh along the way because it was about the journey not the destination?
Remember when we were part of community and we all had a say what happened?
Remember the time we were out till after 11 because we did wait for the slowest?
No, well nows your chance to find out.

This is a social ride, a chance to find out what riding with friendly people once was like.
We'll be starting at the shops but never fear we can move to the Tavern after the ride if you so feel.
Bring a beverage of whatever kind takes your fancy, to enjoy at the lookout.
We will be waiting at the usual spots for the last rider to join us. I will be sweeping so if you want a chat with me then cruise at the back. If I get to a usual regroup spot and people have ridden off without waiting then the route will change and those ahead can spend the night waiting at the next stop for people that won't be coming. ( Get the idea? Eye-wink)

Its also a good chance to spin the legs after the fun of the Mont.

So, if this sounds like you then put your name down now and come and join us for some social fun, no anti-social behaviour or attire is welcome.

Don't worry if it fills up and you still want to come. I'm sure we can post a second ride leaving 5 mins later Eye-wink

promise we will get to have a beer at the look out like we used to?

YEAAAAAYYYYYYY Smiling

Stuart M's picture

consuming alcohol in public is classified as anti-social or not but I certainly promise I will be stopping for a beverage at the lookout. we can even have a "pi@#ing contest" to see if anyone has made lights good enough to hit the other side of Cowan Creek yet, I know how much you'll enjoy that.

I guess if your beverage is hidden in a brown paper bag and you're happy to pass the bottle like all those friendly folk in the local park late at night then you'll be good to go

Let there be light

Bernd's picture

I may have one, only one bottle of homebrew left!!!!
Bernd

Stuart M's picture

Its still a few weeks off and we can always crack them early

Let there be light

christine's picture

apart from the fact that the idea of drinking from a brown paper bag is foreign to me (from memory) - what on earth are you thinking when you suggest i SHARE my beer? I don't think so...

anke13's picture

But love the sound of this ride.

Will have to borrow some lights, though. Anyone?

Damien's picture

My social attire is a bit tight around the waist at the moment but if I do enough anti social riding it should fit again in time for this ride.

Paul's picture

Anke, reading between the lines you probably won't need lights because Stuart will have his portable super nova's up and running and he will be illuminating Terrey Hills, parts of Duffy's Forest and maybe even up to Brooklyn.

If the other budding electical engineers (Buck, Lozza, Gary and Rob) finish their projects and come along we can truely see who has the biggest beam and bragging rights - if this happens we all may need sunnies and radiation protection.

This ride is also 2 days before a Full Moon and given the slow social pace I might try part of it sans-lights just to get back to my original night riding days.

christine's picture

that close to a full moon Harry had better come along too - he was so over my crapping on about where the moon was, how pretty it is, how brightit is and how you do not really need lights...etc etc - hey harry!!

lozza6's picture

I think we should split the group as some people aren't going to want to ride as slow as you Stu.

This is a critical training point in time leading up to DW. I don't see the point of having to re-group and waste people's time........ we're going to the same end destination and can't see why we have to hold up the much better riders..... If you don't know the way, then tough. It's not like we've ever managed to lose riders and separate a group up on a night ride before... right?

Laughing out loud

Buck's picture

That's right Loz. If you and blondie are too busy gasbagging at the back to keep up then too bad Sticking out tongue

Paul's picture

I may be incorrect - I often am, but arn't you guys missing the point of this ride.

It wasn't posted as a training ride it was posted as a social ride. A post-Mont chance to spin the legs, have a chat, a quiet ale, maybe chuck a few mono's, wheelie's, endo's - getting back to the essence of why we love MTB'ing.

If a training ride is what you are after, you may be disappointed.

Stuart M's picture

and don't go hijacking this ride as a protest at being left behind last night. If you do that, Pikey will start complaining as well because he got left behind also.

as for training, gosh you're a slow learner so I'll say it again just for you. "Training is for the weak, it is for those that fear failure". I know failure and welcome it with open arms on a regular basis. The anti-social training set can get their fill the previous weekend at "The Bird". This will be a good opportunity to begin the "taper" towards DW.

There is beginning to be a ground swell of support for really going back in time and making this a no lights night ride. Not sure about going that far but depending on the amount of cloud cover, remember it will probably be raining, we will have at least one section on the way out as lights off and maybe if the home brew is good we can have a couple of sections on the way back as no lights, maybe that pesky little hill to keeps things interesting Eye-wink

Let there be light

Hans's picture

Anke...

You can borrow my spare set. I've always got a light on for you... Eye-wink

Cheers, Hans

.... for me and three others getting left behind.

Can't remember why, as that was 24 hrs ago, but I just do! so there.

Oh yes now I remember ....she was TALKING to Jeff as the pack rode off and they ended up going in a different direction. We didn't know that so rode part way back looking for them!!!!!

But we all caught up in the end at Ranger Kims insightful meeting at the Heath track / Quarry track intersection. As noted already I was happy to learn that I can resume riding the technical downhill knowing that if we take the right hand fork in the road 2/3rds down the trail and exit at the power pylon then all is good. Thanks Kim.

sounds like a decent ride to resume off road riding after my radius fracture and use my new lights, see you then Smiling

Tom

lozza6's picture

Pikey wasn't left behind, he too was a victim of the roid leaders Shocked

I am weak, I do fear failure, therefore I have to turn all rides into training rides. In fact this slow social talk has me trembling at the knees... I'm not sure if I can handle it... I think I better do 12 gates and up and down the oaks this weekend to quell the anxiety... Sticking out tongue

ps. Just out of curiosity what is the max amount or end of long trail beverages ever consumed? Laughing out loud And how sketchy is the ride back Smiling

pikey's picture

Christine, Paul, Stuart and I headed out there on a Friday night each with paper boy trolleys and Coles shopping trolleys duct taped to our bikes each carrying eskies, ice and three cases of beer two bottles of wild turkey, four liters of red ,six liters of coke, one litre of vodka and two litres of orange juice.

And a cheese platter.

We left Sunday morning not quite remembering that happened???
We think the cheese was off!

four liters of red

Ahh there's no better red than goon red Laughing out loud

Shame there's no hills hoist out there.

Paul's picture

Lozza, nothing better than tapping a box monster for a late night session. The local Domino's delivery man had the shits with us by the end of that weekend.

Buck's picture
Pikey wasn't left behind, he too was a victim of the roid leaders

Don't know what you're on about Loz. I just rolled down the hill with a bunch of people and when we next stopped half the group was nowhere to be seen.

I blame the ride organiser Sticking out tongue

christine's picture

I suspect you hold the record now for losing the most people on a ride - not only the three who were with me but Pikey and his lot as well... and Greg, it was becasue of Jeff that I got lost not the other way around...and as for the roidys, they never even noticed missing riders as they were off and peddling at some super speed!

Loz, you and i can set the pace for this night ride if that will make you feel more relaxed about your training...that way we get to have more than one drink at the end as we wait for the rest... lol

Stuart - you will be the first person then to get a permission thingo from the national parks yes? over 20 riders... otherwise you may get into trouble... Smiling

lozza6's picture

Hell yeah, bring it!

just TRY to keep up! Sticking out tongue

robert's picture

what track are we riding all it says is terrys hill.

robert's picture

can anyone give me a lift? i live in newport. doesn't matter if its only a lift back. i just dont want ride down Mona rd or McCarrs creek rd at night.

christine's picture

we are doing perimeter/long but just before the ride i will post all our 're-grouping' spots as it seemed to work on the ride last night.

shaz's picture

well sounds like a great social ride, am very keen but its reached limit...does that mean i have to leave 5mins later and endeavour to catchup with the pack??

Paul's picture

Shaz, I'm not in either, so I'll join you on the ride leaving 5 minutes later.

Damien's picture

Im out.

pikey's picture

Damo won't be able to handle the pace of this ride I said to myself!

Damien you are a joke! Get back on your sexy looking single speed and re-join this ride and be prepared to ride an average speed of 12 km/h. I know you can do it!

Good luck

I know I can I was even going to do it with my granny gear 32 x 21 (for the solo 24) and big slow 29 x 2.4 tires but I am Mr Mum these days and I cant get a baby siter on that particular Wednesday.

pikey's picture

We have a market here for a MTB child minding service.

Too many men (and women) are missing out on valuable ride time due to the needs of ankle biters.

I too know the feeling! Can we not arrange older teens or a kennel service for these people in need?

Ok Damien, you are excused. Catch Ya on the next one

If one of these is started up I'd like to know the price per week.

Jo's picture

Hey would this be a good ride of a relative newbie and who do I have to call to get my name on the list?

Will I need lights or is the trail lit. I've only ridden Lane Cove during the day and I can't recall seeing lights?

Is anybody doing a ride this weekend, I think for once in a very long time I have a free weekend.

pikey's picture

Jo

This ride is booked out but don't worry we post newbie rides all the time.
Yes good lights are critical, see the posts on this site re: lights.
As for a ride this weekend, this weekend is one off our major yearly races being the Canberra Mont 24 hr. The majority of NoBMoB will be down there, but I'm sure you will still find a ride or two posted.

Good luck

Just to make sure everyone is clear that this is NOT a training ride but a SUPER SOCIAL RIDE – if you are likely to be hungry...eat first!
We will have re-grouping points at the Japanese school since I suspect we will ride down the road to get there, then again after the water causeway, at the intersection of the single track, at the junction of perimeter and long trail, at the helicopter pad a semi re-group at the top of the one and only hill and all the same spots on the way home.
Make SURE you bring you BEER or SOMETHING to drink at the end of the long trail at the lookout.
Do not leave anyone behind!
This is the most important thing
I suspect that Stuart and I will be sweeping so whoever – probably Pikey is up the front will stop – we cant trust Ben to be the ride leader as he has a tendency to lose people along the way!
Any newbies coming along, make sure you introduce yourselves to us and talk – that is the whole point of this ride.
See you there!

MEEE Smiling

Ps I suspect a trip to the Terrey Hills Tavern will be in order at the end of the ride presuming we don’t finish too late...and last time we were too late for the food at the pub we ordered in pizzas from Stonehenge..

lozza6's picture

I can't ride so someone quick, fill in the 30th spot!

I also suspect Beany unfortunately won't be able to make an appearance, so there's an added spot there.

Loz

MartinB's picture

Cant ride this one as im not feeling too well Sad

Get in quick!!

christine's picture

Stuart has come down with a bug after the excitement of the Mont - now who the hell is going to sweep with me since Lozza AND Stuart are out?
bloody hell - I am not happy!!!! Smiling

Paul's picture

I should be there (the gods being willing) so I can help you sweep.

I was looking forward to catching up with Stuart and checking out his new lights. I was also hoping there would be a beam off with all the eletronic wizzkids - maybe they are worried that Gary's lights are a little too classy for them?

christine's picture

off, my lights are brilliant
Rob - how do we get Stuarts name off of the list for someone else to put theirs on?
Stuart also spoke to the NPWS and they are aware of our ride and all is good as far as he and, therefore, me understands!

jdb's picture

Dependening on what time my meeting finishes Wednesday night I may be late, start without me and I should catch up on the road section.

Cheers,
Jay

Andy Bloot's picture

Bit late notice
But does anyone have any spare lights for tonights ride
Preferably helmet, but both is good
Will buy beer
Thanks

shaz's picture

well my car decided to blow up this morning and the mechanic is coming over after work, so pending wat time he leaves and fixes it by, will depend on if i can still make it! fingers crossed i'll be there!

Buck's picture

Turns out I have a dinner with relatives tonight so can't make it.

Andy Bloot's picture

No lights
May try to make it for a quick drink for the last time for a while
See how I feel
About 8.30 at the tavern?

craigs's picture

I can lend some lights....
Craig

anke13's picture

Unfortunately, Hans has to pull out of this ride due to an allergic reaction to Sri Lankan food. There go my lights Sad

Has anyone got some spare lights for tonight, pleeeaase

Cheers
Anke

Paul's picture

A very slow social social ride and with a full moon as of last night, I think I might go retro and enjoy the ride sans lights.

Anke do you have the AY-UP brackets, if so I can lend you a light.

craigs's picture

If Bloot doesnt respond you can get my spare, if he does I could possible ration my lights around...
Do you still have the ayup mounts on the bike and helmet Anke?

Craig
