nearly three years ago. a bit too late to become a pro racer but i've just completed a solo 24hr race! not bad for an ex pack a day smoker. it CAN be done and i'd never go back to it! it's one of the most fulfilling things i've ever done. i should have never started in the first place!

Great story Gazza, I have recently given up the fags cold turkey and now I'm feeling like a new man.

I used to go out on the turps and I couldn't resist them. I can't tell you the number of mornings I woke up suffering because of them, you know a red raw throat, terrible taste in the mounth, the hole shebang.

I love your story and wouldn't mind being fullfilled too, but maybe not for 24 hours. Maybe we can team up with one or two other blokes who don't mind mixing it with the old fella's like us.

maybe should have an 'ex smokers' ride? Smiling
long trail and a ciggie at the end of the lookout?
i dont think so!
maybe the ride but not the ciggie!

I am also an ex smoker?
I will have hit 4 years without a smoke on 22 September.

Sure Gazza, an ex smokers ride.. no smokes, but lets ride till we are coughing our lungs up like when we used to smoke just to remind us not to start smoking again.

Well done man, you and Gazza have a few years on me. I still get the urge occassionally and it wasn't long ago I would stop twice on a 15k ride to have a fag.

Ex-smokers unite, I'm feeling the love - man.

Giving up the smokes is so hard.

I mainly only smoke to be social i.e. when I drink, but the problem is I am very very social and I love to drink more than nearly anything. as a matter of fact Im the life support system for a massive hangover at this very moment.

Gazza, Sean, Rod, would love to be fitter, younger, better lookin, smarter and a Chic magnet, but will settle for givin up the smokes and getting fitter and maybe cutting down the booze. I have been known to take abeer on a ride, hows that for a desperate. Im up for a non smoking non drinking ride.

But if you want to ride with me mate, it is mandatory to bring a beer along so we can stop somewhere and chug it down before heading back.. I find it helps my riding. actually bring 2 one for the return also.. a little thing called etiquette Eye-wink

But much rather spend my money on shoes, handbags and of course BIKES Smiling

If you only smoke socially, there is even more reason to give up NOW!!!

Drew listen there are at least two girls telling you to "give up NOW".

I will pray that you have the strength to beat the addiction of smoking and have the resolve to resist over indulging in alcohol.

Perhaps we should run a poll on who spends too much on Shoes , hand bags and stuff on this site since giving up the fags ....no pun intended , i have only bought one hand bag in the four years since smoking .....it was a pressie for the wife though ......really

Gonna pick up the fags.

Haha, no need - you'll find that Gazza wins the shoe contest Eye-wink
