4 laps of Appin and a cuppa
Corner Burke & Market St, Appin. There's a small parking area here at the trail head.
For those not going to the Dirtworks or those that want some fun before putting there body through some punishment the following day, I'm planning on doing 4 laps of the standard XC loop.
I expect to do 2 laps, stop on the way have some fun on some of the trickier stuff if people want and then after a break at the cars, go out and do 1 or 2 more laps.
I'm going to bring my small camp stove, water, a kettle, etc, along with some tea and coffee for everyone so we can have a cuppa after the first two laps and then at the end. Just need to bring a cup.
And a bike......

Chris! you keep posting these awesome rides that I can't do till AFTER DW!
Mate, got to promise me that after DW you play tour guide and we hit Menai, then we'll hit Appin another time after that too...
I needed something to look forward to so I could get over the disappointment of not being able to do the Dirtworks.
It would be a nice warm up for a roidy like you mate…… About 40 k for the 4 laps.
Let me know when you can get down to the Shire and I'll post a ride for Menai.
Who is having a heap of girls around for a party i need to escape from .I have been too lazy to find this place but i live about ten minutes away So now i have no excuse , see you there . Not sure about the four laps ....might need more ....have you ever heard a group of twelve eight year olds ????
Great news indeed. I will be there.
You live 10 minutes away from Appin and you've been too lazy to find it? Where do ride instead?
The XC circuit at Appin is fantastic. If I lived so close I doubt I'd ride elsewhere.
Have fun
Phil
Fire trail in the Mt Annan Botanic Garden , its two minutes from home by bike . I visit Canberra about every three weeks and Ride Sparrow, Stromlo and Majura almost everytime i am there . I also race with CORC every month at all of their club races, so i am not really hard done by at all
How good is this. Ride with an Englishman and receive a cup of tea! Excellent!
Alas, I cannot attend. I must attend a wedding. Apparently.
You guys are gonna have fun!!
hey. I'm in! Might bring some Jinabhai Chai, to drink on arrival as its taken best fresh.
Come on..20's the limit...
: )
Will there be any tim tams with the tea to do the explosion trick?
Tom
If some one brings the Tim Tam's I'll bring the Garibaldi's.
What's the explosion trick, sounds interesting?
I've clicked my star!!!!
How exciting!!!!!
Don't know that I'll be able to pull off 4 laps but I'll look after the tea and the chocolates while you lot are going crazy
Gotta looove Appin!
For a three hour course ? WMBC has a three hour on the 17th May , Although it conflicts with Round 2 CORC at Majura , may be worth a look for all you slack buggers who cant go the distance and drive to the ACT
cheers chris
and might be two of us
two laps would do us i think
Hey Chris we will be bringing a non nobmober friend with us on Sunday, just letting you know so you can add one to the total. See you Sunday.

I'm keen for this but given rain of the past few days (although it does look OK tomorrow) do you think the trail will be dry enough?
I was riding out in the general Campbelltown area today, and those trails were all but dry. Far less rain is falling in the outer west as compared to the city.
Appin has a lot of flat, hard-pack trails which will become tacky with some rain. Don't sweat it, Appin will rock by Saturday.
Yes, Appin will certainly rock...
Been months since I was on the bike so this seems a perfect way to dust off the cobwebs......
Is it a case of park on the road? I'm coming from the north shore (lane cove), I'm giving myself 1 1/2 hours to get there (and to get lost), I assume this should be ok early sat?
Cheers
First nobmob ride for me. I haven't been riding for that long, but was at appin this morning and did 2 laps in just under an hour each. Let me know if that's going to hold u guys up?
The trail wasn't wet at all today, wouldn't even know it had been raining in the past week
It looks like there’s going to be a few of us tomorrow, which is great.
I've noticed a few people are concerned about the pace. My intention is to go as fast as the slowest person, stop regularly and have some fun playing on the couple of trickier obstacles.
If people do want to go faster, there’s always the option of splitting into two groups, a slow and a slightly less slow group......
Because the main XC loop starts and finishes at the cars there’s always the option to bail out after a lap, do an extra one but then still all meet up at the end. Also I found a trail that cuts off a few k's of the main loop when I was down there last time, and I sure some of the people that have ridden there before will also know a few shortcuts back to the cars. There are many options.
We can see how we want to go about things when we meet tomorrow, but one things for certain, no one should be worried about pace etc.
Cheers
Chris
PS: Don’t forget your cup.
So i can try for a lap next week , must be well signed as i can get lost at Sparrow Hill where it is almost impossable to loose your way
If good i will run around next Saturday
Bummer i am missing this one , looks like a cracker !! Have a great one , catch up soon
sorry guys i was really looking forward to it today but just as i was getting showered i got called in to work. its always the way. Hopefully i can join in on the next one soon. hope it all went well was an awesome day for it to.
Many thanks for the ride at Appin today. Much appreciated the tour guiding and fun trails. Appin sure did live up to its reputation. Certainly worth the drive from the North Side. Gotta work on my fitness tho ... seems the red wine and cheese I have been eating isn't the ideal peddling food ! Thanks again for the ride. See y'all next time.
for the great day out!
How nice was that cup of tea after riding a couple of laps?!
Loved both the track and the break
Was nice to meet and catch up with everybody!
Have a great rest of the weekend!
Caro
Enjoyed the ride the company and the cuppa. Now I just need some new forks.
Cheers
Thanks to all that came to Appin yesterday it was a great ride.
Wanted to say a special thanks to Chica and Paul J for bringing their camping gear and then organising the tea and coffee for every one. Also thanks to Caro for packing every thing away.
I hope everyone enjoyed it and they managed to get enough laps in? There were two of us that managed the 4 laps and I must admit at 15:30 when we finished I was pretty tired. JOE mentioned a fifth lap, but I was quick to come up with the "got to get home" excuse. Cheers JOE enjoyed the last lap.
Hope to see you all again soon.
Chris
Thanks all... : )
Tea Wallah's good work.
Nice to catch up with the MoB again... was a great day out.
Just remembered that there was a group of 3 guys riding (on our first lap I think) and one of the guys lost his bike computer. Did anyone come across a wayward bike device?
