BMC 100, Woodend Victoria 2009
Camped out in the field next to some guy who had a noisy tarpaulin that made crackly noises all night long.Made for an interrupted nights sleep. but then i had done my usual trick of hyper hydrating all day before and had to use the portaloo anyway.
For once i had everything perfectly set up... Suspension, hydration, nutrition and my cornering and general handling was great and i rode all parts of the trail. i was very pleased.
I somehow started near the back with all the social riders and had to do a fair bit of over taking( hope i didn't come across to aggressive to anyone?). I finished in 6 hrs 46 mins and i gave it my 100 % at all times .I even used my granny gear wisely on the big hill climb to save my legs and it seemed to work as i finished the race in the big dog and felt really strong. so strong infact that i was surprised.
I had 5 or so minutes of to take ibuprofen, gu and remove outer layer and made my 3 litres last the whole way without stopping at any of the drink stations.
I think this was my best race ever and i will definitely go back next year!
And for those with a Suunto heart rate monitor heres my stats..
6hrs and 46 mins
Average hr 152 (82%)
Max hr 177 (95%)
6067 calories
15.8 km/h average
Max speed 51 km/h and training effect of 5 .
See you at Dirtworks,
Darren.
