Dude, excuse me for being so blunt but your a tool! Common sense should tell you that it's been pissing down most of the week and that the trail is likley to be pretty bloody wet and best avoided. Blaming the rangers for your plain ignorance is just plain stupid. Do you need a sign posted to tell you when to take a crap? Didn't think so...
Wake up...
Fank.
Welcome to NoBMoB.
OK, as you are new to the group I am assuming by your comments that you are new to the locals rule of not riding Manly Dam when it has been raining and, sometimes up to a week after long periods of rain, staying off it.
Those in the know receive emails from the Manly Warringah Rangers declaring when the Dam is closed but as stated above we don’t really need to be told the Dam is closed, it’s called common sense.
The Manly Dam trail is there for the mountain bike users (and walkers) and it is up to us not to ride it when wet, not a Ranger.
So now you know the drill we look forward to you joining us on our next posted ride of the Dam.

Far more eloquently put by Pikey ..... Nice work.
Is somebody cranky cause they didn't win the Dirtworks?
You turned back which was the right thing to do. Welcome to NobMob and ignore the odd emotional outburst from members - we're passionate about our biking...
"Ranger do a better job"
Do we really need to live in a nanny state where someone in a position of power has to do our thinking for us.
You were smart enough to realise riding on would only damage the trail.
Isn't that a call that should be made by all riders as individuals?
I thought your message was humourous! and yes the website does say that the dam is open. dont worry about the cranky responses as you did the right thing in not riding the dam in its current state.
if you send an email to [email protected] you will(eventually) be put on the update list and receive your very own email telling you when the dam is open or closed.
Alas it does take time and i'm afraid that the rangers (who do a fantastic job) are too busy to constantly update the website with a manly dam open for business type update. And so my friend we must rely on our experience and the weather report to let us know when we can begin having fun once more.
I would estimate that the dam will not be ridable for at least one whole dry week. see you out there soon
wow i just relised how tight that was.
TIGHT = mean
sorry
Geez, talk about harsh!!!
Only through reading this forum did I know about not being able to ride manly dam when it was wet.
Responces like that are a good way to deter people from this site and the sport!
Having lived my entire life on the beaches, growing up in Ingleside and Seaforth and having been heavily involved in cycling and road racing from a young age (until I got my licence... haha) I have riden the beaches prior to licence as a mode of getting around, using the dam and such tracks as shortcuts to the road. Wet or dry I used them as did everyone else. So now 15 odd years later I get back into cycling I thought no different. It was only the fact I found this site through a friend that I found out the dam can only be riden on when it's dry. So, give new guys a bit of a break and inform them rather than rubbishing them....

You are new to this site as is Fankles(Brad).
Occasionally we get frustratingly leading comments from lads like Mountainbiker (Lachie) that beg for response.
Don’t judge the site by the comments of three people that have been members for 5 min.
Hang around learn the drill and I look forward to meeting you all on the next ride. We aren’t that bad

Yeah, totally understand.
I wasn't perturbed by the comments so much as just putting it out there.
Being an admin on a forum and a mod on a couple of others (all commodore related forums.) I totally understand
I'll most certainly be hanging around and am looking forward to meeting a few other members.
Cheers

In retrospect I will admit to being a little harsh/blunt. Apologies there "Mountainbiker". What ticked me was we have to be careful not to piss off the rangers that see our side and that are good folks, Chris and Suzy at Manly Dam are champions. Didn't want them getting slammed for no reason and getting off side with us folks in general. We need to wipe our own butts these days a little more and not rely on the rest of the world to do it for us. Taking responsibility for our own actions in essence... It's like do you blame the council for tripping over a tree root on the nature strip? Nup just learn to watch where your going and get on with it .... On my wavelength?
Good suggestions from the other members above ....

This is a guide that will help bring you up to speed with what many regard as unwritten law/rules ...
Consider your ears momentarily clipped for the benefit of many.... and then forgiven ....
Oh and Dirtyworks Simon .... got beaten plain and simple. Pretty happy with the result just the same though, gettin back in the game at last..
Just gotta keep the hand outta the cookie jar over winter and see what happens.
Over and out ....

Hahahahahahaha...too funny. Sorry, couldn't help myself...
i have been around too long as I thought fankles comment was simply hilarious!
sorry guys - you noobies.. lighten up!
Please be nice to Rangers and please don't ride wet single track, it accelerates erosion, and you will wear out your brakes and bike faster, and might get a cold!
Pfffft N00B...
*shakes head*
