Hey guys I stumbled across this guys adverts over the web and they are a little fishy...

He doesnt give phone numbers or an address, but I wanted to just see if anyone knows about it:

I googled it and did a brief browse, and nobody has so far come up with complaints of scamming. I emailed the guy to ask for some more info.

surely if someone had been trading as a cycle shop for 6 years - as they claim in their advert, they should have a relevant domain name like [email protected] ??

I just sent the first link to my mate in the UK who is Head of Sales for Spec.
I am sure he will confirm that its a scammer.

I raced bikes in the UK since I was 12 (20yrs) and I havenever come across 'Jims Cycles'.
It stinks of scam.

Email from him/it:

Hello,
Thanks for your email,we have a security for you when it comes to your security.

This is a method we can use that both parties will be safe.Read the explanations very well.

You will send the money via western union money transfer but to any name(e.g your brother's name or sister's name or a friend name) you want and also any address here in Uk that will be different from ours.

This method we can not receive the money because the payment does not carry our cashier's name and address but we will be sure that you have sent the money so that we can ship out,As soon as you receive your Bike you go back to western union and you change the name and address you put as the receiver's name and address to our cashier's name and address so that we can receive the money. This way both parties will be safe.

If you are ok with this method get back to us with your:

Full Name,Full address,Phone #.Full Order(The Bike you want to buy)

As soon as we get your information's we will get the Bike and get it ready for shipment .Once you get the package we will give you our cashiers name and address then you will change the receiver's name and address of the money to so that we can receive our money.

I think we can operate this way and we will never disappoint you,we have a domain address but its presently under construction because we want to upgrade all our email address and also the website.

Best Regards
Jim Hyke.

Reasons why:

1. Western Union - always dodgy when a reputable business suggests payment through WU
2. Bike gets shipped with no payment or deposit - VERY unlikely
3. Poor english. Not being at all racist, but I'd bet Jim in the UK is more likely Unfufu in Uganda
4. No web page, company email etc.

None of it seems a legitimate business of 6 years on any level. You can always check Company House in the UK as this is where all legitimate businesses are registered.

has come back from Spec UK - they have never heard of Jim Bikes.
Is a scam and should be avoided. They will be investigating further.
