Single Speed Nationals - Newcastle 28 November 2009.
Registrstion now open http://www.twentysixinches.com/ssnats/enter rider numbers are strictly limited to 120 riders you snoze you may lose and miss out.
THE EVENT OF THE YEAR IS ALMOST HERE - If you have signed up you should of recieved this info via email.
First of all this is a points based event, there will be numerous events that by winning and or participating in you will be rewarded. The idea being that we want to make this fair for everybody and encourage participation.
The first points are on offer Friday night, there will be an alley cat style race around tranquil Wangi Wangi. Bring a digital camera, your bike and a sense of adventure. Don’t freak if you can’t make it, but like I said there some small points on offer.
Friday night will see a few drinks at the local and or camp site. There is a pub and RSL in town along with some food options and a small supermarket. Rego will also open on Friday night from 8 for an hour or so at the RSL. Registration will entail signing a waiver, paying your $15 for a race licence (if you don’t have one) and getting a race number and little goodies bag.
Saturday morning, let the games begin; rego will again be open from 8 out at Awaba, we will start with a briefing about 9 and let everyone know how the points will work, safety stuff, rules and all that jazz. We have organized a coffee van to be on site for the morning. Get yourselves out to Awaba as we plan on getting the racing started by about 930 am.
Expect to race for most of the day, and like I said on the website these races will favour the all-rounder, and I don’t just mean being able to drink beer! We have also arranged for there to be some BBQ lunch available so get your mum to wrap a few gold coins in your hanky. There will be a time trial component and the major race of the day will be the cross country, expect to race 30km. there will be a beer drinking shortcut proudly brought to you by Coopers. Importantly you have to be over 18 to drink and each beer is equal in alcohol volume to one standard drink.
Sat evening get back to Wangi, chill out, socialise and watch the hilarity unfold. Drink and have fun, but do it responsibly. There will be a few fringe activities going on sat night both for entertainment and as an opportunity to grab a few extra points.
Sunday morning wake up in a strange place, attempt to remember what happened, wander over to the camp ground about 9 for a nice breaky cooked by the local lions club. If you have specific nutritional requirements e.g. veganism, please let us know by emailing Aido –This is where the racing stops and we do the presentations. From about 11 starts packing up, there will be a social ride around Glenrock up in Newcastle about 12 for all those that can make it. Might be worth bring your swimmers for that one as we will finish near the beach.
Camping
Will be at Wangi Point Holiday Park (www.lakemachholidayparks.com.au), so bring your tents, and associated camping stuff. If you want better accommodation than camping you have to go source it. Everyone is welcome to stay longer either side of the event just sort it with Jennie or Chris at the park. There are showers and some basic kitchen facilities we have access to.
There is food and some small shops at Wangi and also Morriset, but don’t expect the unlimited convenience of the big city. Dallas at Break Away Cycles at Morriset, maybe able to help with last minute bits and fixes.
If anyone needs a lift to or from the train at Morriset please let us know, the option is there and we are happy to facilitate public transport users.
The jersey orders have well and truly closed, but for the quick there are a few for sale on The Saturday. If there is enough call we could do a another batch, we will talk about that during the event.
Finally, if you know anyone who should be coming down or up and hasn’t booked in yet, kick them in the date and get them to sign up; entries close next Sunday 22nd November! Last check there were only 25 or so places left!

Single Speed Nationals November Newcastle Cant wait
one gear and one gear only!!! haveing a "real" 29er SS now, I can say it is so much fun. Today at Ourimbah the new bike was just gr8t.
Look forward to give it a go with all the SS experts in Nov.
Bernd
Lots of fun hey Bernd nothing beats a 29er singlespeed for putting a smile on your dial.
The singlespeed championships will be your sort of race from what I have heard there will be an option to drink a beer and take a short cut. Cant wait will be a good day out.
The beer component of this race has me intrigued and I think being in November gives me plenty of time to change my 29er hardtail to SS and just enough time to harden up.
OMG no, not me too
Yep princess harden up ops hang on thats me never mind.
Come on John you are already there...... its about time to get 29er hard tail out of the shed and give it some loving....... actually has it even got dirty since you got the pivot????
just order a DMR single speed kit and you are good to go!!!
I will be there, the beer short cut might even come into play for me as well.
I have had maybe two or three beers in my life might only be able to handle one short cut. But it is a single speed race (if there is such a thing) there might be another way around this.
a few for you! and I'm sure Paul could help out, too. hope he clicks the star soon!
Bernd
A blind man can see you need some serious practice before this race, 2 or 3 beers in your life! Crikey Pikey drinks more than that between 7 and 8 o'clock on a Tuesday (not sure if that's am or pm).
OK the Plan is - once a week you'll need to session individually with Pikey, Gazza and myself and hopefully by November we'll have you up to speed.
Go and buy a case of beer. John.
should get some homebrew Damien's way!
Bernd
I think he needs to walk before he can crawl, so I think it's too early for the homebrew
you are the man, well said!
so when are we seeing a ?? SS? I got a AUS $ 248! yes 248 bucks Viper frame http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?M...
and used up most things I already had anyway.Gr8t bike, gr8t ride.
Bernd
That's a very red frame Come on Bernd post a pic of your fahrrad!
Tom
I took a few today and left my usb cable at work!! so I/we have to wait until Monday and very nice pic's will be on NoBMoB then.
Bernd
Well since getting the Pivot my other 3 MTBs have become dust collectors. My VT2 has just tonight gone to a prospective buyers home. The Anthem is only used as a back up bike at 24 hour races and the 29er hardtail, well I used one of it's wheels on my Pivot at the Aussie champs solo 24 as it had a better wet weather tyre on it. So the Beone hardtail may as well go SS.
I have reservations about it as I have found it quite hard riding up the Oaks pretending I'm on a SS in a stupidly high gear for the incline, I always give up and change down a few gears (I love that granny ring) but I'll just have to TTFU.
Not sure when but if anyone's ordering let me know.
I dont think you will miss that granny gear too much there is a real simple pleasure in riding an SS especially the big wheeled ones but just get used to never being in the right gear.
This is the tensioner I would run if I didnt have a dedicated SS http://www.paulcomp.com/melvin.html
a single speed is geared if you have an uneven teeth arrangement between the cog and sprocket.
Just a thought
Greg

The Liver is Evil and must be punished

As my bike does lots of different speeds its not a singlespeed damn it I liked singlespeeding.
one more star is clicked.... well sort of, Paul will join us on his 29er SS for this gr8t w-end to come, seeya there.....
Bernd
Thought he would to bad he cant click on the star anymore not good.
Entries are opening in about a week http://www.twentysixinches.com/ssnats
Registrstion now open http://www.twentysixinches.com/ssnats/enter rider numbers are strictly limited to 120 riders you snoze you may lose and miss out.
the star for the SS champs, but I could have clicked it yesterday.
I'm a tentative, what with the 8 hour the weekend before.
Looks really good though, love the sound of the beer shortcut
...In like Flyn!!!!!!!
Rider limit for this event is 120 so it may or may not sell out fast.

I have a part to donate to your Beone SS.
I'll be riding the New GT Peace 9r.
The one Brad had at the Scott looking for a new home, well it found one. I was in a weaked state after the longest MTB ride I've ever done and after a spin around an almost desserted camp on Monday morning it was mine. I don't know how long I'll keep it rigid as I have the fork on the Be one to try
What is the race format? Ride as fast as you can for a certain length of time or set number of laps?
Its more about fun than racing but racing is still part of it but winning is not the goal.
Actually I really know very little about this event I have only heard various rumours and little bits of info here and there but it should be a great weekend and definately worth going if you like singlespeeds and riding with other singlespeeders.
Good stuff John cool bike.
without giving away too much, the format is a few different kinds of races. The emphasis is on fun and people. It's not going to be a 5 lap xc race and it's over style of event.
Places to note for the upcoming ASSN champs.
