Running on the main Manly Dam track?

I would just like to double check to see if running along the main mountain bike track in Manly Dam is considered bad manners.

I went for a run around the circuit with plenty of light left in the afternoon, and there were a few people riding on the track. I kept well out of their way when they passed me (often moving into the bush to make sure I wasnt standing in their chosen line of attack), and when they were bogged on hills or technical sections I only passed them once they had come to a complete stop and dismounted, and with a verbal warning of what I was doing ("Excuse me, sorry").

Despite all this, I got quite a few blank looks, and several hostile glares from riders.

Is what I am doing considered a no no?

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong here. Some people need to learn tolerance is all.

I'm sure we are all guilty of not showing tolerance sometimes dont you think?

always good to try take a step back and look at the bigger picture Eye-wink

Ah DS... what a nice little dig. You will note that Brassington did nothing wrong though.

I always smile and say hi to the runners I pass at the dam.

Though in my mind I am quietly thinking 'we have one bloody legal place to ride our bikes and you runners pick it for a jog'

but I always say hi Eye-wink

forgoodness sake -what do you want now? specific tracks just for mtb?

I dont DARE ask for a mountain bike specific trail in Sydney.

re running at Manly Dam, if you wear your helmut and riding gloves, you wont get the dirty looks, rather, looks of pity. They'll think you've trashed your bike and have to run home ... they'll probably move over for YOU ... go on, it'll be fun.

HAHAHA Rayond, that's would be pretty funny to see. HAHAHA

I can't see anything wrong with someone jogging the dam track.

I think that a fair chuck of people today are simply unfriendly. Not necisarily intentional, but just thier work load, stress, home life. For some I think it's just too much. Maybe I'm making excuses for those people. I personally always say "hello" or should I say "G'day" to anyone I see whilst I'm out. To the people that ignore me, I simply say hello back to myself loud enough for them to hear. Just to let them know they're being a git. hhahha

as i do exactly the same thing..with the hello thing - regardless of what sport etc i am doing!

So long as you're running, and in the correct direction. No walking is permitted.
No strolling, no dawdling, no skipping about like a big pansy...

How you , and others , started the Mont ??

How did i get here ?

Well spotted.

Hey Delicious, what position were you after the Le Mans style running start at the Mont this year?

Was it second, Third? No it was dead last. Smiling

Bikeboy's picture

He did look fast .........in a slow motion kind of way ...

How did i get here ?

Chris S's picture

Having said that he wasn't last when he finished the lap.

He must have been preserving his energy for the actual lap.

I must point out that I was there to ride my bicycle, not run. I claim to be a cyclist, not a runner. And I work in a bike shop, not a runners shop.
What's next? Are you going to tell me that I'm crap at tennis? Badminton? Croquet? Golf?
And what is good about golf? That just ruins a good walk...
