Hi all , i was wondering if anyone can recommend or otherwise comment on these things , as my motorvation to get out amongst the frosty mornings has just about left me for the winter and i have a few races which i would like to perform a %%&^ load better in
I had my eye on a jet black model , supposed to be quiet and pretty good value for money
Any thoughts would be really appreciated

Got one a few years back, a cyclops, and its definitely a great option. Get the fluid, as others are noisey.
They are a bit boring, so you'll need a tv or dvd or muzac to help.

Wayne,

Give Delicious a call. I was in his shop (well the shop he works at) last week and they had stacks of them on sale.

Talk of Cycle Trainers and training sessions! Does this mean team El Rancho Relaxo is not going to be so relaxo……

Peter, I’ll send invoices direct for the share of and sales commission…..Eye-wink

Is going to the Scott like a wolf in sheeps clothing ..... ok perhaps not but with all the time i have had on the bike of late , Stromlo , Sparrow , Wagga MTB park x 2 and Appin x 2 since last monday has provided some motorvation and the need to get quicker and fitter is calling .
And Peter there will be no comission payable if i do purchase a trainer, the royalties for the Relaxo name should be enough ( still cant believe you have got more numbers going to another hemisphere than i can get to Canberra ....)

I get a lot of grief (or should I say others get the grief) using my tyre operated one at events with the mtb. The rim drive models are also a lot quieter in the quite confines of the lounge room.

If you have slicks on then does a rim drive really make that much difference to the noise?

Bikeboy's picture

But is it just the sound of the tyres or the actual mechanism which makes the noise ??

But lately I've been using a tyre drive mag trainer and don't think there is much difference.
I wouldn't want to use either in the lounge room while the kids are trying to sleep in the next room.

The jetblack trainers are pretty basic but good value for money, just make sure it's one of the newer ones as the originals were a little soft on the resistance.

Trying to watch tv or a movie while riding one doesn't seem to work for me so it's Ipod in, brain off.
If you are serious about getting a good workout have a look at the spinnerval dvds or similar to train along with

Bikeboy, toughen up and get out on the road Sticking out tongue

I cycle at 6am three times a week and it's not that bad, once you get going...

Wayne,

Anke has a good point, you could even get out to Appin in the morning, considering it’s only ten minutes from your house you lucky #$%.

If it’s a bit cold for you!!!! You could purchase a couple of quality base layers, certainly a lot cheaper than a trainer!

I believe delicious’s shop does these also Smiling

You both have a point But as a comparison at 6am today in Campbelltown it was 0.9 deg compared to Sydney airports 6.6 deg . Now you are welcome to call me a sook , which i will take on the chin , but i was at Appin at 8 am today at 2.1 deg . My point is that i know my limitations and when i am riding alone and the alarm goes off to a frosty below zero day i want an option of spending some time riding on a trainer not just ride in the cold or stay and keep my doona ( and wife ) company .
FWIW i have some great cold weather Ground Effects gear and have tackled -6 last winter

Wayne,

When the ground is frozen for days on end and the puddles you’ve been riding through for the past ten months have turned into sheets of ice, then it’s cold.

Frozen ruts hurt so much more than sandstone rocks when you come off and land on them!

Riding in Australia is so good. Get out there and enjoy it mate, the lounge room is for sitting on your @#$% and watching the cricket.

Oops did I mention the cricket……

It was minus 2 here in Canberra last night and when I hauled myself out of bed at 9.30 this morning I had to turn the heating up to 23 degrees on the way to the kitchen.

.9 degrees - tsssch!

I've named our most petite mannequin 'Anke' and she is positioned with a Specialized Dolce and is clothed in the latest womens' winter cycling gear by clothiers of note including Specialized, Pearl Izumi and Netti, eyeware by Shimano, shoes are Specialized Spirita Road, helmet is Specialized S-Works 2D for women and set design by yours truly...
I asked Beany to contribute to hair and make-up but he said he was v busy at the Lyric theatre...whatever that means. Eye-wink
