My first club round.

Another new (for me) track to discover.

My second club race

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

As far as series points for my grade (D) goes, today puts me in 8th.

So this was my second club meeting and I enjoyed it as it felt like I had improved since my last effort. Who knows; maybe next round I can break into the top ten? Smiling

National Elite XCM Champs

I wake up, and test my muscles whilst still in the safety of my bed. Tense my thighs – ok, tense my calfs – ok, roll my neck – feels good.
I push back the covers, and stand up.

I collapse, I feel like I have had my lower back punched by Tyson for 5hours. I go to the toilet – darkest urine ever.

That’s right – it’s the morning after the National Marathon Champs! This is how you are meant to feel!

James Williamson Enduro 2015

The family and friends of James Williamson, who sadly passed away whilst competing in the Cape Epic, have been the driving force behind this event since it’s inception, and they must be given credit for doing a wonderful job. I have race the Willo nearly every year since it was first organised, sadly missing out last year as my car didn't make it to Wingello so had to turn for home before making the start line. I had an added incentive this year as it was the day I turned 40, and was racing in the highly competitive Masters category.

It is 1am on a balmy night on the Gold Coast last weekend and I'm sitting in the VIP lounge of 'Love' nightclub. As I look across the dance floor packed with twenty-something aged dancers gyrating in time to the incredibly loud, but not distorted, doof doof, I notice the DJ is on a stage of sorts probably no more than 50cms high. 'I reckon I could pop the front wheel up that and ride onto that stage' I say to myself and have a laugh.

What a great weekend . We only had one team to beat , that being our sister team of Cadence & Co Black.
After our first 4 laps there was only a second separating us . We were lucky to get through the next 4 with a carbon rim pulling spokes and showing severe signs of stress . This left 3 Leftys and only 2 front wheels . I couldn't help being on a Superfly. .The boys managed to change between the laps for the next 14 hrs.

Giant (Otway) Odyssey 2015 - late review, great race...

A week late, but a great race....

This is a proper marathon MTB race.
My race calendar each year takes shape around 4 key races. These are races that I consider to be the ‘Classics’. Monuments in Australia Marathon MTB.
The Giant Odyssey is the first of the year (for information, the others are the Convict, the Flight Center Epic (Qnld), and the Highland Fling). So heading down to Victoria is always something I look forward to.

It’s not often that I or anyone else here writes about a DNF but I have had plenty of time to reflect on mine at the Willo last weekend at Wingello and have learned some lessons I’ll bank away for the future that I thought I’d share.
