Compression Garmets

Hi Everyone,

So we have all heard the hype about compression garmets but are they actually worth it? I'd like to know! as im thinking of investing in one.

So here is my breakdown...
I commute 10 times a week for 15kms about 35mins, singlespeed and I HATE being overtaken! So its fairly punishing (for me) when going up the hilles
Longer ride on the weekends for about 2-3 hours and as the fling and Mogo comes up I will be swapping the commutes for a longer one

Questions...
Should I get a chamoix one as well?
Should I get longs ones, which cover the calf or just the shorter ones?
Do you wear them after a ride?
Any good recommendations on good value brands?

I'm not sure about these yet. They do seem good for recovery if you can't get a massage but as for wearing them on the bike....

Their main advantage during sport ,as I understand it, is in the way they stop your muscles jarring around. That doesn't really happen when riding so it's not doing much for you.

I'll slip mine on for a couple of hours after a real hard ride and use the long ones. I also do a bit of stretching and self massage routine but that's got nothing to do with riding Jawdropping!

They work.

I find they take the edge off the delayed onset muscle soreness. They're also great as a thermal layer under your kit during the colder months. Mine are the original skins, before they splashed onto the market, so they're pretty doggy now and due for replacement. Tip: hand wash. They last much longer. If you must machine wash, roll them up in the little bag they come in.

As they said.

I use mine after a hard ride (I have just put mine on now). I sleep in them then take them off before I go to work unless I am really sore). They do seem to help recovery. I was for the OSC brand, cost about $120 which is good value I reckon.

If you're going to try riding in them watch out for some brands that have a little mesh panel in a rather sensitive region: it looks soft and smooth but it will chafe like carborundum after an hour or so. Otherwise they're OK to ride in: warmer than shorts but not as hot as tights.

I'm not familiar with the OSC brand
Do you know where to get them Dylan
The skins are just too expensive
And even the body armour and X2 ones are quite exxy
But after a long ride (long for me anyway) would like something to help stop the John Wayne's afterwards

Perhaps? Rebel sports actually stock, skins, 2XU and BSC, don't know if they are best price but they have plenty of choice, some cheaper ones too. I've just bought some 2XU shorts which so far I have only used for running, they felt good but as to how much affect they had I'm not sure yet, I was too sore from the ride the day before anyway!

Hi Guys

Yes, BSC (Sorry Andy, I was wearing them at work so couldn't very well strip off to check). The sales bloke at Rebel Sports reckoned he had tried them all and found OSC to be the best, as they are thicker. Good thing is they are the cheapest too!

I don't know if it's subjective but they do appear to help me recover faster and make my legs all shiny.

Got them at Rebel Sports 20% off sale, which is cheaper than a years supply of Ibuprofen.

Hi guys thanks for letting me join in on the yellowmundi ride ... As for the compression tops , I ride with my long sleeve top on at the moment in winter I also hve bottoms that I wore out for a ride on Saturday with JOE around the pathways . It keeps you a bit warmer & also helps with the warming down too .As of brand & price ? My tights that I wear over my knicks came from Aldi when they had compression gear for sale & the top is made by Puma , cause it was cheap 50 percent off At Pauls warehouse

At one of the events last year I bought a set of Skins bib riding pants, full leg. Fairly pricey bit of kit as I recall. The chamois in them however is one of the most (if not THE most) comfy of the ten or so various knicks and shorts I have around.
As I suffer from cramp I looked at these to assist in blood flow - seems to mainly do the trick have not experienced cramp wearing them on both road and off road rides. I leave them on for as long as it takes to get home from wherever I am riding and thats about it. They are comfortable and keep you warm in winter and conversely cool in summer as they wick away the sweat.

Highly recommended.
