Ignitor tyres order confusion.....

Hi all. I'm after your opinions please....

I just recently ordered four Maxxis Ignitor 26x2.1 62a tyres from Wiggle, and when I received them i found one of them is the UST tubeless version. I do not run tubeless, know very little about them, and so I'm not sure if I should use it or not. Now as far as I can tell there is no difference besides the rubber being slightly thicker on the tubeless, so I'm wondering if I should just keep and use it as a normal tyre, or if I should be contacting wiggle and organising a return. Any suggestions on which route to take?

Thanks,
Col.

Hi Colt.

The UST is slightly heavier and has a different bead.

I think the TPI (threads per inch) should be the same though but you might want to check as it makes a difference to how they roll. I'm sure the tread will be the same.

If you are not worried about the weight just sling it on and ride it. The UST tyres are usually more expensive so you could sell it to someone with UST rims, or even convert your rim to tubeless and save the weight of the inner tube and get a more durable tyre in the process.

Well, the UST are more expensive, so you're ahead for a start Eye-wink

Although as you say, thicker so you are carrying weight you don't need with a tube in it. Not sure I'd do that.

You could probably flog it here and then get the non-UST version with the funds which will be cheaper than returning it.

Or convert your wheels UST Eye-wink

Ahh. Thank you both very much for the info. I will probably try it on the rear with tube and see how it goes.... frankly I could do with a little bit more weight on the back to aid my traction on the inclines, so I won't mind that factor.

I don't think I'm ready for UST just yet. Smiling

Cheers!
