Good Shoulder Surgeon?
Hi
Came off my bike recently and have a distal fracture right at the end of my clavicle which requires surgery.
Anyone recommend a good surgeon or specialist from experience or word of mouth.
Thanks
Ivan

He operates out of RNS. Put a plate on my clavicle 6 months ago, great job.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Not a lot of fun.
Dr Greggory Burrow: Has rooms at Sydney Football Stadium at Moore Park and Mater Private at North Sydney.
ex-NSW Blues Rugby player - well connected in the football world, so gets lots of practice. Well-regarded by my physio.
Did my reconstruction 3 months ago. Rehab is still in progress.
Another is Norm Peko (sp?), who was operating out of North Sydney Sports Medicine Centre, but may have moved to the Mater with Gregg recently. Gregg did his training with Norm.
My GF used him to sort her shoulder which was ultra floppy (believe the technical term is hyper mobile).
Not sure where he is based but I know she had her op at Randwick.
I went to Ben Cass as well.
highly recommended
Specialises in shoulders
Angus Bathgate at Bondi Junction. very good seen him myself as well as afew friends he does the Australian rugby team too.
Greg Burrow re-attached my right biceps distal tendon about 5 years ago. Had the op at Northbridge Private or somewhere like that. All good so far.
I particularly liked the way while I was on the trolly being wheeled in he asked what arm it was and scribbled on it in a big marker. Although I later learnt this is kindof common practice but it's re-assuring all the same
Here's his bio:

elbow and shoulder specialist
My recent shoulder reconstruction ( shattered proximal humerous, detached rotator cuff and bicep) was done by Matt Sherlock in Dee Why. I had it done at Delmar which is just round from my house although I believe he also operates from North Shore private and maybe Mona Vale.
Good luck and remember to take it slow !

thanks everyone really appreciate your help
@rob: ...haha, he did exactly that to me too.
@CB: ...my physio reminds me from time to time to respect the healing process. How is yours going?

my elbow after the surgery. shame he couldn't have operated on me? he might have done a better job than the guys down in canberra!
Recovery going well but slow as predicted.
I'm at physio twice a week and hydro once a week ( Tiera Freeman at Aushealth Physio in Brookvale.... the smiling assassin! Highly recommended ) as well as doing exercise a couple of times a day
Bone has pretty much healed now ( although there is still a very small piece floating around. Won't know for 3 - 6 months if it is going to be a problem) It's mostly a case of trying to continually increase the range of movement and try to build up strength again. Left thigh and knee is still a bit fragile. still a small pocket of blood flaoting between muscle and skin but the majority has been re absorbed. My left quad is a truly bizzare shape now though. The knee is improving but because of the muscle damage, it was thrown out of balance and the kneecap was being pulled sideways. Been doing similar exercises to those Rob discussed recently.
I just got a home trainer and have had a couple of sessions dripping on the kitchen floor..... it shows how desperate the situation is when just sitting on a trainer feels like heaven !( the 575 proves it's versatility once again... ) The shoulder is pretty stiff and sore after 45 mins on the trainer though, but gets better each time.
Not sure how long before I'm on the road again but the curent thinking is that it will be between February and May before I'm back off road.
The most common advice I've had both from medical professionals and patients is to de dilligent with the exercises but accept that it will take time to recover properly. I've know a few guys who have had serious problems due to getting back on the bike too soon
Accepting that I wouldn't be riding the Doctor or the Fling was hard but at least I will be at both races as a volunteer. Looking forward to passing on encouragement to Mobbers at the water stations !
Where are you up to with your recovery ?
CB
Hey, CB. Good to hear things are progressing.
I'm back on the bike riding in the trainer and on the road on my commuter (hardtail / 700c slicks). I'm under strict instructions from the surgeon not to fall off undr any circumstances, so no trail riding for me for at least the next 2-3 months. Did 50 minutes yesterday on the road to Dee Why, and an hour today out to St Ives and back, and 3 sessions on the trainer midweek focussing on pedalling technique and core strength (single leg drills, seated spinning spints and the like), as I had just got all that sorted for my lower back stability when I had the crash.
Shoulder was really sore afterwards when I started it a few weeks ago, but it was fine today. Fitness will seems to be picking up OK. Ah, major step forward: I can drive again!
I've been a bit naughty and have been late starting the swimming therapy due to finances, but will get onto that later today.
Range of movement is still profoundly restricted due to capsulitis tightening up the joint. External rotation is limted to 50-odd degrees and 130 in forward vertical, but I have to stretch into it to get that, nowhere near it when it's not warmed up, so that aspect's not so good. It's improving, but progress is slow. Other than that, going well.
