Duration:
4 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
SMS/PM me before to confirm. Meeting Point:
Fountain plaza. Erina nsw. corner of central coast highway (entrance road) and Karalta road
Details:
Hopefully proposed day suits... such a busy race scene at the moment.
There are lots of look outs to check out so the ride can seem quite sociable, I'm happy to start at what ever time suits who
is coming up to the coast.
It's at least 80km and not many safe spots to top up for water so bring enough to get ya thru it.
Any questions just ask.

Hi James, Looks good. I'm a tentative at this stage.
This sounds intriguing... any clue as to the route? There doesn't look to be much dirt at the meeting point, are you sure it's an off road ride?
AAAAAAAArrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh, I have a wedding that day!!!! Crap!
What are your thoughts on this possible route one day for a Mega Tour de Coast:
Park at Ourimbah State forest, ride past Tuggerah along Wyong road, then along Enterprise Drive to the Industrial Estate at Fountaindale and up a mega fire trail climb towards Brush Rd.
Down Brush Rd to Ourimbah then along to Lisarow and follow the Fire Trail up to Katandra Reserve and ride the Single track to Rumbalara and down into Springfield. Next head out to Erina and ride up and over Kincumba Mountain. Next head out through Empire Bay, over the Rip Bridge to Ettalong, then start the Brisbane Water NP trail at Woy Woy Tip. Head up to Kariong and along Peats Ridge Road to Kulnura for a fast 20km fire trail descent into Ourimbah State Forest and maybe a lap of the XC course for anyone who isn't dead yet!
This would take in 5 separate riding areas and I have know idea how long this would be or take to complete, but I'm keen to give this a go one day.
What do you reckon? Plausible?
EDIT: Just did a quick map - 142km give or take....... oops!
EDIT #2: Actually the wedding starts at 7pm - I'm in.
EDIT # 3: I'm out again.
kincumber reserve then through mcmaster trails.. over to maitland bay walk trail., over the rip bridge thru umina
along the cliff track to patonga from there thru brisbane np up to staples lookout.
down to point clare.. then thru wyoming up 10point hill over to st johns lookout thru rumbalarah back to erina..
the mega tour would be sweet as... we can do that before xmas i hope.
Thru wyoming huh? Cool, then we can wave at my wife and kids as we ride past, depending on what route we take. At least it could be a good water top up spot.
Which is ten point hill? Is that the end of maidens brush road?
I guess we'll have to do a bit of pavement riding, especially between point clare and wyoming. But a lot of the other areas I have not explored yet, so will be good to check out. (Some coastie huh?) Regardless, this should be an interesting test of my new found smoke-free endurance.![Sticking out tongue Sticking out tongue](https://nobmob.com/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/Example/tongue.png)
Colt
im pretty sure 10point hill starts at the end of blackbutt st..
and there is few ways to ride from kariong to wyoming,, all hush hush hehe
Jen leaves me for two weeks to go back to Ireland the day before - I'm in for this one.
i can't make it, nor do i have the legs for 80k's yet, but can I ask how do you hook up patonga to staples lookout?
Go back up patonga drive, then take the great north walk north, avoiding the tip to take the rock platforms on the cliff tops, then along tunnel track?
Or is it cross over the beach lagoon at patonga, then around broken bay and then take the highway ridge trail that becomes the great north walk?
Some other way?
Fair enough if its a local secret, but have been trying to find such a route, and most explorations around the central coast so far have been trial and a lot of error...
1st day back on the bike today all pretty sweet.
ive only ever followed local riders thru this loop so unsure of all names.. but from umina we take the cliff track around to pearl beach/over to greenpoint rd were a trail takes u up a climb to cross over patonga road along the great north walk up to staples... it involves a hike a bikesection nothing to extreme...or long...
(rocksteady) we can always keep in touch on the day and meet you in pearl beach or up on patonga drive, we cross over at the crest coming up from umina..
sorry if im not making sense..
1st day back? After what? I'd like to do this one James but think it's too close to the Scott for me, as I'll be starting to taper and have lots to organise for the race.
John.
i fell off 3weeks ago... i see gurus in the next 2weeks to determine wen i go under the knife and how much racing i can do
before the op...
there is a fair few options to take short cuts(cutting out techincal sctions) im sure the pace wont be on all the time.. i cant loose any
riders out there:) so we can wait at changes in direction on the trail...
u know u wana come!!!!
Maybe if I get bike 1 & 2 preped for the race and ride bike 3 for this, it could work.
Shame about the shoulder hope goes well for you.
John.
was looking forward to this ride, however after waiting 2 weeks to get pivot bearings replaced have been told i'll have to wait another week before i get my bike back,so thats 3 weeks off the bike , not happy.
That sucks, how can it take so long to get bearings? What sort are they? Practically all bearings are standard sized and can be source at any decent bearing shop. I replace mine in my wheels and bottom bracket regularly.
Any chance of a lift with anyone coming through or near Frenchs Forest?
Looking forward to it...
well rain is predicted... ill def ride if your keen.. rain goes in circles up here so we mite be lucky to dodge it..
our trails really need it any way, so bring a rag and urfav chain lube because uwill really need it if its wet about 70km in..
chops
Mate - I (we) will be there pretty much regardless of weather. Unless it is literally a monsoon when I leave home, we'll be coming. Lube, chain-breaker etc will be thrown into the 'bak.
You know what they say (at least at home).....
If it aint rainin', it aint trainin'.
I agree we need rain badly so I'll probably be there. I couldn't miss a ride like this.
James, I assume you won't be at Ourimbah on Sunday then? Aren't you worried you'll loose your top spot?
yeah i can't believe myself how long it's taken, thought it would be a day or 2 & would have my bike back.Obviously the new housing is made of gold & the bearings of diamonds from the price they have just given me for the bearings alone.
well im leading the points and i cant be overtaken even if dont show.
so ill be there 4 shits n giggles ad hopefully no tears... one day at a time in my life so if im all good
after saturday ill be at ourimbah... got a long couch n floor space if anyone wants to crash over..
sorry guys. amongst selling the bike that i'd be riding tommorow(want to keep it clean) i've got things on. have fun.
With this rain settling in I am undecided if I will be going or not.... at the moment I can't afford to potentially ruin brakes and drive train by riding in the wet. I'll see what the weather is like in the morning and decide then for sure.
Colt
....yet.
I think I over did it in the gym yesterday and my legs are screaming. I should have a better idea by tonight but at the moment I can't even walk without a daft grimace on my face
echidna trail to the luge>>>experience heart break hill>> see if u can make it up big bertha in middle chain ring..![Smiling Smiling](https://nobmob.com/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/Example/smile.png)
hold ya nevre on the cliff track> make it alive thru the stromme... dont over heat getting to the rip bridge
dont look down as we take on another cliff track... enjoy the stop over looking lion island and palm beach.
enjoy feeling lost in patonga,, pump up the biceps for a casual walk... explore the moonscape hold on over the drop offs..
grind it to staples and woot woot back to sea level...
try to score all the points up 10point climb we reach the highest point in the area and its all down hill from there... carefull of things in the trees
younow know u wanna come
Damn you make it sound like it'll be fun mate. I just wonder if my stamina will be up to the challenge!?! I'm not as fit as most of you on here. I guess if it is raining at least it'd keep things cool.
Sorry guys, legs are still rubbish. Someone please get a gps route for me.
James, Might see you tomorrow.
Sorry everyone, but it's too wet for me and I just wouldn't enjoy the ride and neither would the bike! So I'm out I'm afraid. The steady rain seems to have settled in but good luck to anyone who's still game. I'd love to see the GPS route too.![Smiling Smiling](https://nobmob.com/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/Example/smile.png)
Colt
hmmmmmmm its pretty wet
i doubt we will make it the full loop in this rain,,
should drag u all to the gym for a spin class that would fix the prob,,, ill be looking at the next date i can run the ride![Smiling Smiling](https://nobmob.com/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/Example/smile.png)
see ya at the meeting place if ya as crazy as me ...
chops
it was def to wet to be dusted, but we onlygotdrizzled on in the last 20mins.
well done to antsonline and big well done to checkmate on his trance cause the pace was not very casual![Smiling Smiling](https://nobmob.com/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/Example/smile.png)
im sure we can tee up another chance before xmas...
chops..
Dunno what you're talking about...the pace was pretty casual for me![Smiling Smiling](https://nobmob.com/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/Example/smile.png)
No - well done to Checkmate. He was pretty daunted at the beginning as James and I 'chopped' off up the first hill (and every hill actually), but rode really well and was never far behind.
It was a 4hr + ride, polished of with some lovely coffee and cake out of the damp.
Thanks James - this ride will be repeated.
Others - you missed a cracker, although I have to admit to just putting my chain in the bin and putting on a new one!
Hey James, Anthony,
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a blast, thanks muchly!
Got home safely, ate the whole jar of strawberry jam with some chocolate just to make myself stand up from the sofa to take a shower.
Well done guys!
