Has anyone else had this problem? This is the second time I've noticed an Ignitor 2.35 with multiple bulges along one side.
The tread is only halfway through. I'm not happy about it and they certainly arent super cheap. ideas anyone?

Take them back to the LBS... this is a manufacturing defect and they should be replaced by warranty.

BTW, I assume you're talking about something like this:

Bulging Crossmark

Jeez that's reassuring. I just got myself a set of Ignitors (was previously running Crossfires) but I got them from Wiggle, so I'm crossing my fingers that this never happens to me cause returning them would be a bitch. Sticking out tongue

I had a severe case of these bubbles forming on my 10 month old Maxxis Ignitor and Crossmark tires. From what I understand this has been fairly common and can be replaced under warranty. Maxxis and the LBS are well aware of the problem but nothing has been officially released. The problem arises when the original sealant has dried and new sealant is put in. Due to the pressure the new sealant pushes through the dried sealant covering punctures or weak areas and penetrates the inner layer of the tube. It flows inside the tube and forms a bubble by separating the layers of the tube. I had golf ball size bubbles that when popped would leak sealant that was in the bubble but not release any air as the inner layer had already sealed.

I never saw these bubbles until new sealant was added after the original sealant had dried and still had 75% tread left. You should not need to check for quite some time.

Replaced tires and don't expect to see this issue until the original sealant has dried up. Hopefully by then Maxxis will have acknowledged the problem and fixed it. Plenty of info on the web and it's not just Maxxis having the issues.

Oh, so is this a tubeless only problem? Or does this affect those with tubes too?

I'm not 100% sure but I wouldn't understand this happening to the tubed version unless that inner layer was really weak and somehow the tube forced its way through. Then it would be a serious issue. At least the tubeless bubbles don't completely stop you from riding as they just pop and seal. Nevertheless, I replaced mine for the Angry Doctor, it wouldn't be worth risking it.

I've had these bubbles on my tubeless Maxxis and also tubeless Schwalbe tyres. Its a bit random in my experience, some tyres do, most don't.

Anyway the bubbles don't explode, they just leak a bit so I don't consider them dangerous. To me it just says "time for a new tyre". You can run them with a tube until the tread wears down if you like, but that's not really the point of tubeless Eye-wink

FWIW I am currently back running Maxxis tubeless tyres.

...the bubbles don't explode...

Yes they do... my bike was sat in the BA workshop and the bubble was growing noticeably. Blew up after about 10 minutes. This was about 40 mins after I finished riding our hill fest epic couple of weeks ago.
