i know of atleast 5 separate incidents, 2 i exerienced myself after coming upon the injured riders, 2 mins earlier in each case and i would of collected the wire. Most cases its wire tied across the track and one case was duct tape. The wire i saw was extremely thick and put a cut into the frame about 1cm deep, the rider in this case got flung over the bars and broke various bones, still off the bike after 3 months. The wire is being put across the track in downhill sections where the speed is usually 40-50km/h, serious damage to bike and rider will happen if you happen to come across it. Its happening now on all parts of the cycleway and at different times of the day also. I do a regular tuesday night ride to prestons and back with a group and we will need to change the way we ride the cycleway. If we come across the wire with 10 of us peleton style it will not be prettty. So keep a lookout and report any suspicous activity so there is a greater chance of the hoodlums being caught
... on them being nearby to watch the carnage. Seems to me the scum just set it up and leave it. If they're watching, it's probably from somewhere safe.
is this happening along the whole M7 or just the NW area where they used to throw rocks at the cars ?
they must be trying something that might be more reward worthy, like a cyclist might not ring the cops over his $100 (??) bike but a car driver would (cough)
Why don't they[1] start up a community program to maintain the old Olympic Track out there? Build some jumps, a pump, a skateboard area, etc.
[1] Some sort of authority that's interested in stopping bored teens peggin rocks at cars and try and decapitate riders... which you'd think should be all of them!
What has happend to people that they think it's ok to endanger another human being?
I was riding in a pack today towards the airport and some wanker (excuse my French) threw an empty drinks bottle out of the car window into the pack. Luckily the bottle missed us and no one was hurt. However, considering that cars are going from 60km to 80km in that spot, it could have had dire consequences.
I resumed commuting last week, from Allambie to Sydney Olympic Park. (Yes, hilly. )
Every trip bar the return home tonight I've been abused by some bogan - "Get off the f!@#en road!! " Same words each time. 80% hit rate for the journeys so far. This morning's incident happened on a road that has big bike symbols painted in the middle of the main lane every couple of hundred metres, so it's not like I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be!
Dunno what it is - I used to get that once a week max, often only once a month commuting to the city 6 months ago.
The same nimrods that complain about / target cyclists on the road?

Don
If you have a old solid pump that sits under the top tube like mine you can crack one off them over the head with it , it would sure knock em out

I read on another board that the cops believe it's the work of bored westy teenagers out of the Deans Park area.
Basically yes, the same idiots that have been pegging rocks at buses and cars.
