Hey everyone,

l have a steel road frame hanging around and was just thinking about making a cyclocross bike.

What l want to know is, could l take it on many of the trials around Sydney?

And, would it be good to take on the easier trials at Stromlo?

at the Fat Tyre Festival last year doing the event solo on a cyclocross fixie, IIRC. If you can do Ourimbah on such a beast, then I suppose it should be possible do most trails up to the the techical level of the Dam on a regular CX bike.

Would be a challenge. A bit like going to the dentist can be a challenge.... not sure why you'd want to. Laughing out loud

if its a road frame it wont be beefy enough for off road and you wont be able to fit centre pull brakes so no riding in the mud!

You could (possibly) braze on some cantilever brake bosses to the forks and seat stays, so that would sort your brakes.

Or disc fork for the front and caliper brake for the rear (a very large one with large clearances for the tyres/mud).

The unavoidable problem is that the frame/fork clearances won't allow the bigger tyres that you need for cyclocross.

Sorry.

Here's a cheap cyclocross frame for you:
