CenterLock Disc Rotors with Avid Brakes and installation...
After a bit more research.. a few more questions:
Has anybody experience with centerlock disc rotors with Avid brakes? Shimano obviously says use centerlock rotors only with Shimano brakes...
What rotor brand did you use?
I could find Avid rotors on CRC in 185 (Shimano apparently only has 180...).
The only 203 I could find was from Shimano.
Do I need a special tool to install the centerlock rotors? Got the impression but couldn't find any conclusive information.
What is it called? Any shop recommendation?

My front centerlock uses an external BB tool, and rear a cassette tool to do up the retaining nuts.
Why not buy plain IS discs to suit your calipers, and get a centerlock adapter?
DT do a beautiful adapter set up, fast to change and very reliable retention. I have this on one set of wheels with Avid G3 rotors, I ended up buying a second set of G3 rotors for my hope hubs (IS 6 bolt mount) as it was too slow to swap discs from one wheelset to the other.
I found the brakes quieter with the centerlock adapters, possibly because of the ring clamp.
CL adapters also make it easier to change discs without touching the contact surface, no more fiddling with little bolts, applying torque to the disc while trying to do up the bolts etc... The retainers also preload the disc in the correct direction as you do it up, so it can only get tighter with use, not loosen.

I know a few people who have had success using Shimano centrelock discs with Avid callipers. You just have to cut/grind the tabs that stick out from the Avid pads or they can otherwise foul the centre portion of some two piece discs. I guess this means you need to then install/remove them with long nose pliers but... meh.
There are numerous centerlock -> 6 bold adapters available. The DT one already mentioned looks to retain the disc using prongs in the adapter:

Naturally the DT one looks lighter (needs no bolts either) but you pays your money and makes your choice...
Hi Sascha, Just had a look at CRC and they have the six bolt version of the Zero's in stock.
I would go for those and by Avid rotors to suit your brakes.

You might want to order front/rear as separate orders or you'll get stung with import duty. Erm... although doesn't look like you can.
Or take the price to the LBS and see if they can come close to doing a deal?
It makes no sense to me why Shimano went the centrelock route, except perhaps to throw their weight around in the market and show they've "still got what it takes" to impose a standard on the market.
6-bolt I.S. hub and disc combo is lighter than centerlock. I can't see why you'd bother with centrelock, and I'm a shimano fan.
...but they are over $1000 which means I have to add about $200 on top of the $1084.
The other thing is, that it seems you can't buy spare spokes online. Otherwise, great deal.

Have you looked at the Hope Pro 3 factory builds? There are various rim builds available, there extremely light, a lot cheaper than other wheels in there XC / Race category and they have just been given a great write up in a Pommy magazine. They do have a rider weight limit of 85Kg's but I don't think that will worry you For me unfortunately the weight limit could be a problem
Pro 3 hubs have no disc mounts so rim only.
Out of interest, I just ordered up a wheelset with Pro 2 hubs, Sun Ringle EQ21 rims, DT revolution spokes, alloy nipples. Claimed weight is 1476g (688g + 788g). If anyone is interested will let you know what they come in at on arrival.
BTW - well under half the price of the the Fulcrum Zeros being talked about at the mo, but definitely XC race only. These are mainly for the GF but have the added justification that I can use them on the Yeti for XC racing if need be Only possible due to convertible nature of Pro 2 front hub

Chris, just looking into the Hope Pro 3 wheels .. sounds promising too.
What concerns me about the Fulcrums is the lack of spares (spokes...).
