Hope I've done this entry correctly.

2 days ago Marhleet posted that the 1st DHL box had arrived from the US. It contained two 20/20 VholdRs & one STARNEX CamBall as well as all the spare batteries, chargers and other associated lovely goodies. Today the second box from DHL arrived.

The 20/20 Contour HD has arrived & my Sony GPS Camera thingy also. Yippee.

Now your prolly wondering why we got these lovely things. We like to take photos of the places we ride. As a result we are not fast. In fact we are quite slow. The advantages for everyone else is that you can see all our pics that you wished you had stopped to take. Now you'll all get to see the videos you wished you'd taken.

We are techno junkies. We love new technology and we love anything that can help us capture the joy of the ride and show these fantastic places we've been to others. The 20/20 VholdeRs & the Contour HD, their use is pretty obvious, see http://helmetcameracentral.com/2009/04/27/vholdr... and http://www.vholdr.com/

The STARNEX CamBall is going to be used for Parked Car Surveillance, see http://pointofviewcameras.com/camball-world-s-sm.... This is always on the minds of all MTBs when along way from the parked vehicle. Many of us have had their cars, motorcycles, trucks and bikes etc either broken into, stolen, vandalised or have had bits pinched. I'm talking in general, not just while out riding. The CamBall is tiny. Smaller than a golf ball and is movement detection capable. (SG-31). Its going into the optional water proof housing which will have a small mobile phone sized solar panel attached to provide more than 1 day of recording for those long away rides. The solar panel has a built in lithium ion battery. The CamBall will be hidden outside the vehicle, I won't say where and it will capture all movement to its 16Gb Micro SD card. Identification of theives will be made easier and police arrests will be easier.

So this is just some of the stuff we got recently. A more in-depth review of this equipment will be posted soon. Maybe next week. Pics and vids of the lovely electronics is what I have in mind. Next Sunday 11/10/2009 is Lidsdale. Come along to see the new toys. See rides if you wanna come.

Stay safe.

Adrian

... for the Cam Ball may include counting rider numbers at places like the Dam. Might help us get some hard data to take to Council so we stop getting treated like secondary users.

Excellent idea for security, by the way. Smiling

Yeah, I thought we'd discussed this before. SCA have some boxes linked to a mobile that take pictures and send them straight to rangers.

I found these online for a few hundred bucks but have lost the link here:

It's beyond me why NPWS don't use the same thing, both for enforcement and surveys of user numbers.

You could also build something pretty fancy using http://www.buglabs.net/ modules and plugging any USB capable mobile phone into it.

This Camball is pretty cool... now link it up to a mobile phone. In fact, for your security that would be good too - you could have it email pictures of people snooping around the car to you while on your ride (everyone carries a mobile with email, right?). You could also put a phone in the car on a loudspeaker/auto-answer and call it and say... "Leave my car alone!" Eye-wink

that would be nice
but might use the other ones you mentioned to do it with

the waterproof case is a very snug fit and gonna have to drill a hole to get the usb lead into the camera
so it won't be proof anymore
just weather resistant with the hole on the bottom

the ContourHD camera, is one of the bad ones in the batch, bugga
the card reader is a tad worn (brand new) and the metal contacts are all laying flat, not sprung in the air.
it knows there's a card in there, but can't talk to it ;-(
the hassles of buying from the US
