Wow, what a race! I found the track exciting the whole time and the change to the night lap and back added more interest.
The fast downhill sections had the adenaline pumping so hard I never felt sleepy or struggled to stay focused for over 25 hours, with the size of the rocks that line track you know they are going to hurt if you make a mistake. Lucky I didn't!

This is the 1st time I've ridden the Pivot at Stromlo and it ate all the technical parts of the track with ease and I find I can ride it fast while staying relaxed so it was perfect, I never touched my spare bike the whole race.

The track crowding was an issue and hope CORC go back to 2 loops in the future, especially with the World Champs next year it would be good if the solos did a different track to make passing less of an issue. CORC still run awesome races.

I got 19 laps in with an average time of 1:20 it could have been better but I broke my freewheel and had to run, coast and scooter my bike for about 5km for the spare wheel then go back and do the last loop. The running didn't do me any favours and I found my next lap one of the hardest, reminding me my last triathlon wasn't even this century Sad

Around 2 laps later my chain broke, fixed that without drama.

Soon after this I sat in a comfy chair while Gav worked on my bike for 5 mins and I said I didn't feel like going back out, I was cold, aching and feeling pretty used, Well Gav and Louise were going to have none of that and coaxed me back on the bike. (I'm so grateful) In 6 24 hour solo races I have never DNF'ed.

Once I got going I relised if I could get 3 more laps done I would break my distance record of 332km. It was going to be tight so had to pick up the pace so lap 17 I did in 1:17 then Lap 18 pushed harder 1:16, I was getting my heartrate back over 140bpm for these 2 laps so I was trying, I crossed the line at around 11:55am WooHoo 2 1/2 hours of pain got me another lap!

Off I went, slower this time and had the company of Supagav and V (thanks again)

Crossing the line for the last time was a relief, disappointed I didn't podium this time but still stoked I cracked out 348km on a tough course with 7800m of climbing. My bike computer measured the laps at 18.3km average which seems a bit short so maybe I did over 350km which has been a goal for some time.

I placed 4th in the over 40's so I've also Goggled the guys that beat me to find out if I'll be racing them in the world champs next year.
The good news is 1 is 40yo and 1 is 41yo the other couldn't find his age but hopefully he won't be in the 45-49 category next year.
There will still be plenty competition, I'm sure of that Smiling

I will be faster, leaner and meaner next year Smiling
