What fun!!!
What a great ride! It felt like one of those nights out when you feel completely sober so decide to have a vodka and your completely drunk with nothing really in between.
I turned up at about 7:10 to get a decent spot on the start line and was horrified to see there was already a massive bunch and I would be starting a long way back. This turned out perfectly, however, as the about 10 k in the first 100 riders or so went the wrong way. By the time the resulting chaos had calmed down I would have been one of the first few riders to realise the error (sorry i should say someone not too far in front of me realised the error) and I was placed near the front of the pack. Of course this didn't last too long.
For the first 50 km I was feeling fresh as a daisy and then at the half way hill the dreaded cramps set in. Lukily I had a few salt tablets but the 3rd quarter was pretty tough. After the last transition I gulped down my remaining salt tablets (I was too scared to count how many) and the cramps seemed to disappear and I felt OK again. This was right after Rob busted me walking up a hill - well that's my story and I'm sticking. It was cool to see a few mobbers out there and it always gives me a lift to see you guys on the trail. I probably would have felt disappointed with the lack of single track, accept the truth be known the fire trails gave me a great opportunity to spin the legs and relax a bit before the next hill.
Most favourute part, probably like everyone, was the single track I think they called the great wall. Least favourite part was riding the entire dirt roard back to the 2nd transition on my Pat Mallone.
Overall a really fun race and I'm pretty stoked with my time of 5:42
