It was indeed a great event ! amazing vibe really! well done to Adrien/Ado for the days of fun ! the track was fun, the people was nice, I took the beer short cut towards the end as I knew the second girl was not far behind Smiling I felt really good after the beer though! It was cold and perfect but when I crossed the finish line the beer got me and I was in lala land !! good job to Damien, Gav, John, Jay and Bern for their great single speed effort !

What could be a better day out than with a 100 plus fellow singlespeeders absolutely fantastic.

Met Bernd nice and early (maybe a little early) for the trip up to Awaba got to the track and waited for the day to begin.

Went for a lap of the track before it got too hot and it’s a very nice track good length and nice flow no huge climbs so perfect for SS.

A couple of warm up events to get the day started firstly a hill climb that was over before it started and a quick short downhill dash all good fun.

The main event was 4 laps of a nice flowing XC track with no real technical challenges or nasties to catch you out after a beer or three or more (there must be some rocks on the side of the hill somewhere). I initially planned to do the 4 laps but I needed a cold drink towards the end of the second lap so the beer shortcut was too tempting and got me in. After which I rolled along the track quite happy to call it a day and sit and chat.

The results that count V held off some strong rides from the girls and did well with a beer pit stop to take out the championship and she is now the Australian SS girl champ.

The male winner Garth was amazingly quick but looked way to serious to be Aus SS champ but he slammed a beer on the first lap and then took out the win so well done and we now have a Kiwi as the male Aus SS champ a perfect result.

Best part of the day was the 100 odd plus singlespeed bikes with everything from old beaters to crazy high end unobtanium models and not one bike like the other.

A great day out indeed and looking forward to next years event.

Well done to the disorganisers you put on a good show.
