Urban Polaris 2009

Well, another great day riding around canberra. I'd been suffering from a migraine Friday and Saturday so really took it easy on the day to try to keep the heartrate down.

We got a good start following a couple of locals who knew some great shortcuts.

Another star entrant was Huw Kingston and Wendy, Huw's first ever Polaris after many years of running them. It was a fun moment for me when I was able to yell out to Huw and Wendy 'the canoeist is hiding in the trees back there'. Polaris in-joke. the canoeist has always been a pain to find Smiling, and Huw has a reputation for insidiously cunning check point placement.

We got black mountain out of the way early, but unless you are really fit it is very time consuming and the time could be better spent covering some distance.

We ended up with 250 points and came 13/27 teams in our category. Not too bad for a fairly easy day and our fitness not being at the level it was a few years ago (we've placed 3rd or 4th in our category previously).

The Epic was great - it's a lovely bike to ride for the long distance.
