The Oaks Wed 27th December
Was thinking of doing the Oaks (Woodford to Glenbrook only) Wednesday December 27th if anyone would like to join me.
Would normally be on the 8am train from Glenbrook but it turns out there is no 8am train weekdays so our choices are either 7.28 which gets us to Woddford by 8 or 8.28 which surprisingly gets us to Woodford at 9. My thoughts are that the later train is getting too late, particularly if it ends up being a hotter day, so would like to be on the 7.28 train. In that Glenbrook is normally only about 40mins from home (Gladesville) this shouldn't be too big an ask. Post back your thoughts if you intend joining me.
If you feel the need to ride "up and back", all well and good but I will only be riding one way.

i am keen! Do i REALLY need to get my brakes fixed first?
If so I will be madly ringing bike shops today for front ones!
MEEE
ps how much food etc will we need?
What's wrong with them? I would suggest yes as there are a couple of steep downhill sections as well as the looooong downhill run to the gate, don't need brakes for this until you get to the end but then you definitely want to stop before you hit the fence!! Oh yeah then there is the steep road run down to the causeway so I would suggest definitely yes.
What breaks do you have and is it just pads you are after?
Can make it Thursday if you want but not Friday
I think...you know me, no good with the bike! Had the back ones fixed half way round the fling but need the front ones done...yes, i do think it's just the pads...
Thursday would be better but am happy for Wednesday - up to you...Tour Guide!!!
Hiya Stuart,
Agree with you on the earlier time.
I'll see if I can rustle up a few mates as well.
Evan
OK, Christines brakes are fixed so Wednesday the 27th it is.
Glenbrook Station carpark by 7.15am for the 7.28 train. Don't be late because the drive up to Woodford isn't bad but the train ride after 2.5hrs on the bike isn't the best.
Hope to see a few familiar faces.
Stuart
Hi Stuart, Christine, Evan
Keen to do the ride too. Sorry for the late notice.
Leaving from Frenchs Forest area around 6:15am (I assume that's early enough to make the 7:28am train) if anyone wants a lift in the silver blob... SMS me on 0411 448 763 if any interest.

A most enjoyable ride. I'm sure I speak for all eight of us.
Who took the photo? Please post...
Nic

It was a great ride at the Oaks. It was good to meet some people as well. Cheers for the ride. Glad Dave is Ok.
Evan
I had an absolute ball thank you! It was a great ride, especially from the helicopter pad!
thank you very much for organising it, it was FUN!

and electrolytes to help avoid cramping.
"Pinch Flat run" lived up to its name with three pinch flats on the single trail section, even after my comments about tyre pressure before we left the picnic area, whats more two of them were on the one bike, really!
Dave has recovered well from his cramping and may join us again Sunday morning. But as for Christine jumping in the recovery van so close to home, well Donatello, the turtle didn't win this race!
The real surprise for the day was not the State Rail 7.30 train that did't come till 8.30 but Pete's mate Richard. After only "three rides in about the last 15 years", onboard Pete's spare bike complete with skipping chain and even after the double serve of "Aussie LAmington" for breakfast, he still had a smile on his face when we hit the bakery for breaky number 2.
On a pesonal note, good to see Nic envoked the policy of first rider up the hill comes back down again to keep the last rider company, Nic I appreciated your company
Hope to do it again soon, next time we might not rely on state rail and just ride to the helipad and back down again.
Stuart
In my defence I stayed with Dave and oversaw his drinking to help recovery from cramping and the lift was only 100m!!! - I WOULD have ridden it but Nic was very polite and had already loaded my bike in...the turtle lives to ride another day!
I must say, for the first half of the ride I was wondering how Peter and Richards friendship was going to go - but then after the helepad as he overtook me (along with EVERYONE else) he had a giant grin from ear to ear!
