Ourimbah training and exploring

When:
Sunday, 10 January, 2010 - 09:30
Duration:
4 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Ourimbah State Forest
Meeting Point:

North End of Red Hill Rd, Ourimbah State Forest. There's a large-ish parking area here, just off the main sealed road. There is also a smaller parking area a little further (400m or so from the road) where the trail splits - this second area is the usual meeting point. If you end up driving up a steep hill you've gone too far.

Red Hill Road, NSW @-33.275884,151.377053
Details:

I've been doing too much road riding recently (which isn't saying much) so need to get the XC skills working.

Aiming to put in 3 or 4 training XC laps for training and fun, then potter off to explorer, perhaps up towards the tower and over the hill as I hear there are some trails over there. Then back down the DH track to the car and a beer. Ideally would like to be doing +50km.

If this sounds good to you (and why wouldn't it) bring lots of supplies and water, I don't think there are any taps there.

I'll be going up to Ourimbah too, expecting to get there around 10.30/11, and there for a good few hours, putting in a couple of training laps too, then meeting a friend there at 12 for a couple more steady laps, as it's his first time there. With luck we might be able to meet up around 11 for a lap together.
Can't get there earlier, as I'm dropping my wife off at her gallery in Tuggerah on the way at 10.

Hi W

Cool, that works well for me. Just keep give me a buzz when you want to meet up, I'll see where I am at the time.

I've wanted to ride here for a while but haven't made it yet. I commute a bit so I think I shouldn't slow you down - at least for the first couple of laps - but I'm looking to have a decent hit out & push myself a bit so I'm looking forward to this ride.

Looking forward to meeting some more of you too - I've only been on one group ride & haven't been a member for that long either.

Hi Dylan, V and I are back in town now so we will come and join you. We need to ease ourselves back into aussie riding, the lack of perfect bermed corners is going to require a bit of relearning to ride.
see you in the morning.

Phew, I felt I couldn't really get going today, but probably it was just trying to keep up with Gav and Ray on the first lap, missiles! It was great to have you all along today, such a great track and despite being royally bugg3rd now I sure had a good time.

Here is a track, this time taken with the iPhone as I left my Garmin at home: http://maps.google.com/?t=p&z=15&ll=-33.27605438...

If you click on a link there you will also find a group photo and some other stuff.

Cheers guys Smiling

LOL... I had an idea Ray might show up and that with him, V and Gav on the scene the ride might be a bit fast! Eye-wink

Shame you didn't take the Garmin as I'll bet your HR numbers might look quite good. Eye-wink

Great ride, though & good to meet you all. It was 38 degrees when I left (the car said). Dylan - was it just one more lap for you & Whisperer?

LadyToast's picture

I did one more trying to keep up with Ray till I hit the wall (after about five seconds).
So much for exploring, will have to get back again soon.

Yes the last lap was faster than expected. I ended up in front after the drop-off, not realising Dylan has stopped off to the side somewhere at the bottom of the drop (after leading out on the way down to the drop off).
I spent the rest of the lap 'trying to catch him' and led the train back to the car park.
I kept offering Ray opportunities to pass me, but he just sat on my wheel while I nailed it - average hr of 90% for the lap - 33 minutes in high 30s heat.
To be fair the guys had already done one or two laps and I had fresh legs.

My next lap was far more sensible Smiling with another mate along for his fist visit to Ourimbah.
