We were up at The Oaks on Satruday morning. Our plan to ride up and back was cut short when CV's front brake failed on the decent down to the watercrossing. The springy thing that holds the brake pads apart had split in two. Epic failure. We were pondering our next steps when a fellow MTB'er came down the road, crossed the creek and stopped. No sooner had he seen the front brake in pieces he offered to help. In fact he flips his bike upside down, pulls off the front wheel and removes the brake pads from his Scott. "Take this one" he says and handed over his 'springy thing'. He was at the end of his ride, close to home and 'had a spare back there'. I was totally amazed. A complete stranger offering a part from his bike so we could continue. Gee I love this sport. It's not just about the riding ... it's about the people you meet. Cheers comrade.

It's also possible to receive assistance from outside the brotherhood.
Once I was at Yellowmundee and had an incident which ripped my RD clean off my bike. So I got walking and made it to the road. A bloke in a van pulls up and gives me a lift back to my car which saved me a substantial hike in cleats on a hot morning.
Also, there was a time when my girlfriend and I were riding our roadies through the Royal National Park and the heavens opened. Very heavy rain indeed. We pulled over into a park. This was to prevent us being killed on the road as we were being blown across the road and visibility was nil. This tradie pulls in and takes both us and our bikes in his van back to my car at Waterfall train station.
The world has plenty of good people in it.

"This tradie pulls in and takes both us and our bikes in his van"

Stranger Danger much? Sounds like the beginning of a 'Wolf Creek'esque film

I picked up a walking roadie 1/2 way down the Wakehurst Pkwy once, the way his face light up when I pulled alongside him and asked him if he needed a lift. His bike was in the back of my ute and he was in the front seat in less than 5 seconds lol.... he had broken his chain and was a long way from Nth Sydney, luckily I was on the way to Crows Nest, so I dropped him off.

It is one of the great parts of this sporting community. Happened to me at last years Mont during a night lap when I had really bad cramps, was on the side of the track stretching out and 9/10 people who zoomed past asked if I needed any assistance. After a few mins it actually got annoying haha.

I love you Mountain Biking, dont ever leave.
