Back on the bike - yeeeehaaah
After a 7 month absence, I'm now officially back on the bike !
So far only road commuting but hopefully some light offroad around March ( hopefully in time to train for Dirtworks...)
The ride in this morning felt great although my fitness is seriously below par. The sessions on the trainer have certainly helped though as I wasn't quite as bad as I though I might be.
Since the crash and shoulder op http://nobmob.com/node/9627 I put on a rather unpleasant 13kg ( try carrying around a whole extra bike !) this has droped by 3kg due to some work on the trainer and what my wife refers to as ' portion control ' Just another 10 kg's to lose then.
Still going to physio regularly and am wearing a shoulder brace with some d3o pads attached when I ride as the shoulder is still pretty tender and I'm a little paranoid of bumping it ....... I'm reminded of the recent discussion about wearing body armour on the GNR ..... I'm wearing body armour on Military Road ! ....... how's that for soft ?
Great to be back on 2 wheels again
Hopefully back to business as usual ( at least on the road)

if you are back riding, who the hell is going to point the rest of us in the correct direction on race day?
glad you are finally back on the bike mate!
Well done!
Coming out to play on the 23rd?

At least on the trails the trees don't actually try to knock you off your bike, it only seems like it! Unlike bogans in Sydney traffic.
Well done on getting back on the bike mate. Stay upright.
And I'm claiming credit for busting him first - passed him on the E66 coming into Neutral Bay this morning.
although I am sure all the race organisers will be missing their Star volunteer!!!
100 at Dirtworks then?!!
it's not soft wearing the armor - soft would be never riding again! Most pleased to hear you are back!
MEEE
Congrats,
Your story was pretty horriffic and I'm vert pleased to hear that you're back on the bike.
I did myself in about the same time but with a much quicker recovery of about 4 months so I can understand that you feel a lot of lost fitness after 7 months.
I think the body is not meant to be fit cause it takes so much work to get it and once you get it it does not stay unless you maintain it. I suppose the "intelligent designer" was not so intelligent after all or Darwin's "survival of the fittest" is flawed- depending on your conviction
Cheers,
Staffan
@ Sean : Someone else's turn now ! Volunteering is great fun though and I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't actually racing.
@ Rob : after reading of your 'silliness' .... all I can say is not bl00dy likely ! ( I can't keep up with you when I am fit never mind fat ...)
@ Hawkeye: Indeed !
@ Christine : I've got a ticket for the 100k but it will be interesting to see what my mental state will be like at the time. Could be some confidence issues. Just have to wait and see. Maybe I'll join your social cruise ...... I presume you are doing the hundred ?
@ Staffe : Sorry we didn't get a chance to catch up. I think if Darwin was alive now he would rename it as ssurvival of the fattest !
Thanks everyone
