turns out the poms actually can do something well lol although im sure they would fall over if they where to hold a cricket bat lol...
only joking haha...
I saw 9-lives practicing some of this stuff last night on the trail but thought he gets a hard enough time about "roid boy" so didn't.
Then I came across this http://nobmob.com/node/1288#comment-1663
Is "roid boy" / Mr B Grade racer changing colours? Maybe he's one of that elusive "possy" of riders that have been seen around parts of the city on a Friday night doing similar stuff whilst attempting to avoid the police!
Don't worry mate, you're not the only one thats becoming a grumpy old man as we age gracefully.
As for spell check well speak to Rob, this has been mentioned before, God knows I need it.
I saw those guys riding round town last Wednesday night and that kind of kick started me to practicing that kind of stuff. I dream of being able to manual down the street. It's cool though how quickly you can pick that sort of stuff up if you've been riding for a while and just spend a few hours a week getting used to balance points on the rear wheel etc, and practice is the only way to do it.
'Sides I love it when you see somebody doing that sort of stuff and then spot a Pitt St farmer replete with opera glasses and spotless 4wd keys giving a scowl, you're then justified in claiming some degree of youth.
Does anybody know a way of getting to the city with a bike via public transport from the northern beaches area... when are they going to install bike racks on buses...? haha...
...ride.
(or ride & ferry & ride)
probably should have mentioned i didnt want to ride to the city from narrabeen lol... didnt think of the ferry tho, so thanks...
Give me another 5 years and I'll have it sorted... Just got to learn how to balance like that and throw the body forward enough to lift the bike 6 feet in the air... anybody say roids?
Sweet,
Matt.
Matt, from what I can see in the video (and others that I have seen before), the design and weight of the bike frame will help get that extra air when hopping the bike around. These are STP bikes, yes?
Also, are the diameter of the wheels larger than the normal 26"? I would have thought that might make a difference.
Plus, have you noticed how little air there is in the tyres? They seem to compress heavily like a drag car does. Would this also provides some additional "bounce" when you are springing the bike around in different directions? So possibly not all of the power needed to lift the bike 6' in the air need come from one's own body strength? Not saying I know - just making a supposition.
Found a whole load of You Tube goodies on all kinds of tricks, check these:
good sh...
bring it on...............

Not sure they're that much lighter if at all, as they have to bit a bit sturdier to take the punishment. Wheels will be 26", 29" wheels are getting popular now but not for street bikes, more for XC, I've seen a few street type bikes with smaller wheels though, not quite BMX but getting there. AFAIK tyre pressure will be a bit lower just for grip, if your tricks depend on a half turn of the pedals you don't want to be slipping the rear tyre.
Is there anything I can't spout sh1t on? No. And if I don't know I'll make some sh1t up.
An entire post without jumping to a conclusion. My ramp-aging opinions must be dropping-off. Gaaaargghh...if anyone can come up with a sh1tter sentence with my favourite three words feel free, call it therapy ;@)
Ta,
Matt.
Excellent instructional videos Rob!! They are sensational. And some stuff there that we could all use. I can't wait to try out some of that stuff. Probably the wheelies and the hopping, as a starter. When you put it all together easily, in a simple to understand video like this, you realise that this stuff can't be all that difficult. But it will require a lot of practice! Lucky that I have the time!
Oh, and thanks also Matt. Good info. BTW, I think I just heard the school bell chiming for recess...
...detention for you young man, less of that cheek or there will be a letter to your parents ;@)
I've been able to hop for a little while now...but I find some of that stuff gravity defying! (zap tap? I find it impossible to bring my bike up to that kind of height)
Been trying to do rocking...but maybe something to do with having rear suspension ruins it?
Some breathtaking and unbelieveable footage - if you didn't see it with your own eyes. The double backflip is pretty cool. Can't ever remember seeing that before. I would never have thought you could jump this far down a drop-off on a MTB. Some amazing bike control shown on some of these attempts. Here you go:

very awesome....how can wheels not break under that kind of pressure?!
Those guys are nuts! Awesome to watch, but nuts!
Steve, isn't that up your alley m8?
=;o)
Yeah those Ryan Leech videos are great......but no way I can do any of them
Here's a vid of Ryan in Prague from the Roam DVD. How about that riding along a railway track!

Truly amazing. I had seen that Prague piece before, standing watching a widescreen TV monitor at BA one weekend. It had me transfixed for 20 minutes, just standing there watching it. The staff wandered over every 5 minutes asking "can I help you?". How do you get that good? Who has the time to practice to get that good? Again, truly amazing.
