What I actually said was that Yellomundee was now the nearest circuit one could ride. There are closer parcels of single track, but none forming a recognised XC loop (or part thereof). Close enough though
I'd urge riders to respect the rules. The Dam is probably a little too wet to ride at the moment anyhow.
I would probably not have fessed up in an interview that I was going to break the rules by riding all of the Manly Dam trail. Not the best image for our community and obtaining the sympathy we need. Oh well, hopefully that does not damage the upcoming meetings.
And I rode the Dam last Sunday (after the signs went up) as usual, but Aaron didn't show.
So I think with the Manly Daily he is probably just making a point - maybe suggesting a little bit of civil disobedience or perhaps the deliberate disobeyance of an unjust law which is after all the morally correct thing to do.
How politically helpful that would be remains to be seen.
BTW: it was indeed wet, but not muddy and all quite rideable
Its disapointing to hear about those of us still riding the track when wet. We all should know better than that.
Annoyingly, but not suprisingly, the Manly Daily has to go and publish the 'extreme argument'; perhaps coz they could get a photo.
We are all incensed, we are all very angry as the descision is flawed in so many ways, but this closure will be resolved quite quickly by intelligent and agressive lobbying. Not hick behaviour.
Lets show that we are better than 'them' and hold the high ground by staying off the trails when they are wet (and it poured Sat night at North Balgowlah) and complying with the ban for now.
It will only be a week or so of deprivation - head out to Cascades and get some hill work in !
